“Beautifully restored house”

Took the Grand Tour; staff very accommodating and enabled us to take the morning tour rather than the afternoon one for which we held reservations.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

A magnificent home saved by the prince of Wales. We had an excellent tour guide and did the extended tour. With only a few of us, I think we had a more personalised showing. Unfortunately the front gardens were in the process of having fountains installed, but did not take away from the grandeur of the place. the home is full of magnificent and priceless furniture, some pieces being valued individually for tens of millions of dollars.
By the way, Dumfries house is not in Dumfries.it is just outside Cumnock.

“Dumfries House”

This is a terrific place , rescued by the Prince of Wales , and run by a trust, discount if you are a historic Scotland member, and now giving a country house full of lovely furniture - but you must book a tour by phone ( no online booking) , and you only see a few rooms albeit very interesting ones.
The grounds are being reconstructed to provide a wonderful fountain in front and an arboretum and walled garden but currently it's a bit messy until this is finished. There is a super kids play park, and a good cafe. It's slightly confusing where to park. Go in 6 months, it'll be better.

“A truly inspiring project.”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

The Grand Tour was well worth the extra few pounds and we were delighted to be supporting this truly inspiring project. How nice to know that these treasures are being kept in their original location and were not allowed to be scattered on sale to buyers from around the world. Congratulations to all involved in this heartwarming endeavour.

“Wonderful day out”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour of this amazing house with it's beautiful contents, on Tuesday 6th May. Our tour guide was very informative and gave us a most interesting 90 minute tour There was so much to take in. Very interesting mix of new technology (I pad carpet) in with the original Chippendale furniture. Had afternoon tea which was delicious, we were well looked after by Stuart and Iain who were most attentive and passionate about the work they were doing. We also had time for a wander around the grounds, lots of work under way, will definitely be back to see the walled garden and fountain when finished. There is a wonderful play area, every age group is catered for here. Well worth a visit
