“Friendly and comfortable if not efficient”
Reviewed 4 August 2008

We'd booked one of the Cottage suites, and arrived tired after a long 4.5 hour drive. It was a bit disconcerting to find the bride from the wedding party which was going on had had the room the night before and hadn't returned the key, and there was seemingly no spare. We were offered another room to save us hanging around, and we tried that, only to see on opening the door the room was clearaly occupied. 3rd time lucky, we ended up with a fine room, with large very comfortable bed, feather duvet, lovely view, Unfortunately over the function room so quite noisy, but bearable.

Due to this hassle, we were upgraded to a la carte menu for dinner, which was fine, and breakfast did not disappoint.

On checking out, we found we'd been charged for the a la carte dinner, but this charge was deducted with no argument on querying.

All in all, comfortable and very friendly - efficient maybe not, but very friendly and helpful.

Stayed August 2006

My husband and I stayed at the Lochside House Hotel and would definitely recommend it, if you're in the area. The staff were all so friendly - we really did receive a warm welcome. We stayed in the Lowes Suite which is decorated in an "African" theme (complete with giraffe!) and has french windows opening out onto a small balcony which overlooks the Loch of the Lowes. The room was large and had a huge bathroom with jacuzzi bathtub. We had dinner in the evening - again the restaurant has lovely views over the loch - and the food was excellent. Breakfast was good too - a full Ayrshire breakfast for my husband and I had a bowl of the best porridge I've had in ages. We visited Drumlanrig Castle which is only about 25 mins from the hotel, and also the Lead Mine at Wanlockhead - both well worth a visit. The only negative is the nearest town (New Cumnock) which is a bit run-down and depressing... but once you reach the hotel you're far enough away that you can't see the town, and the hotel and grounds are a little oasis.

Stayed for 10 days at this hotel with work.

Standard of cleanliness was high and customer service excellent, very attentive and friendly staff.

Beds nice and comfy and lots of hot water in the showers.

Scenery lovely, nice sunsets and wildlife in the loch.

The food was good although quite heavy at times.

Only the occasional little drop in standard such as missing toiletries in the bathroom and quite loud muzak at breakfast!

I would return here if in the area again.
