Owner description: See the large and imposing suite of buildings from the 12th to the 17th century with the grand hall-house, thought to be the oldest standing stone castle in Scotland. There is also a delightful walled garden, with scented flowers and a beehive-shaped doocot, which overlooks the Forth. Take a guided tour in summer to see all around the castle including the painted ceiling in the east range, which is a precious survival from the early 17th century. Open all year. Winter Closed Thus and Fri.

“Brilliant little gem”
Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

My girlfriend and I were driving around the outskirts of Edinburgh, and decided to head over the Forth Road Bridge into the Kingdom of Fife.
I am a Life Member of Historic Scotland and chose to visit this site as I had not previously visited it.
What an absolute delight of a Castle.
If I had known of it before I would have taken loads of people to visit it, unlike my usual options of Edinburgh and Stirling Castles.
There is lots to see at the Castle and the grounds are immaculate.
Very much worth a check out!

“Lovely Castle & Gardens”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

We enjoyed our visit to the castle although there were problems parking as I think some people had left their cars there to go somewhere else. You can park at the railway but it was fairly full too. The castle was interesting and the gardens beautiful with a strange dovecot to view. We also visited the little church next door which had had fire damage but the windows were lovely.
The castle had a bus load of American tourists while we were there which made it a bit busy but we still enjoyed it.
You can also walk down to a nice little beach from here which we did as it was such a lovely day.

My wife and I have been to Aberdour three times and really enjoyed it there. The staff are so helpful and the gardens are beautiful. It is located right beside the train station.

“Great day out”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Visited Aberdour Castle on Sunday. We had wanted to visit for a while, having spotted it on train journeys to Edinburgh. Was very impressed, amazing building and gardens. Well maintained, and very visitor friendly. The lady at the gift shop was very helpful and friendly. Through her advice we joined Historic Scotland, which we had thought about before, so are now looking forward to lots more days out.
