We found this a great hotel for a family stay. It was clean, comfortable and spacious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. This is a great location, with castle, walks, beach and park all on the doorstep. The local shops are also full of charm; the kids were entranced with 'The Green Witch.' We would have no hesitation in recommending The Woodside; we'll be back.

We have stayed several times at this hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms have been nice, clean and comfortable. Great location for taking the train to Edinburgh. Front rooms have nice view of park entrance. Breakfast service and food very good.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room, at the front on the first floor (US: second floor) with its spectacular view across the road to the gate-lodge and entrance to a 'park', had a high ceiling, and was quiet and comfortable. Full British breakfasts offered much more than we could/dared(!) to eat; the porridge was excellent (as one might expect in Scotland). The Clipper Bar is a room salvaged from a passenger sailing ship early in the 20th century and is really something splendid to behold. We were visiting friends who lived nearby thus we didn't have an opportunity to try Lunch or Dinner. We would certainly return on our next visit to Aberdour.

While parts of the Woodside could use an upgrade - rather tired swirly carpets and feeble lighting in the bedrooms - they do most things really well. Friendly staff, everything very clean and comfortable, decent car park. The Clipper Bar with its arched glass ceiling is a nice place to eat dinner, chat, enjoy a drink. The hotel is right in the village and five minutes walk from the station, where you can get frequent trains to Edinburgh or anywhere else. Take time to enjoy the station garden - it's a prize winner! And visit the beach and the harbour of Aberdour - another short walk from the hotel, but don't try to park down by the shore, it's hopeless. If you're a golfer, ask the staff about playing the local course - right by the sea with lovely views.

Room Tip: It's quieter at the back. I had room 8, which was nice.

Whilst in Aberdour i was looking for somewhere to have dinner. I popped into the Woodside hotel and was taken through to the clipper bar, which is a beautifully furnished bar with a stunning ornate ceiling from the Macintosh era. The staff were very friendly and polite, dinner was delicious and portions were very generous and i would certainly recommend the establishment to friends and family :) big thumbs up.

We stayed here for one night whilst visiting edinburgh for a concert. We booked pretty late so had to look outside of the city and ended up booking at the Woodside. The staff were great very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and clean and had some nice characteristics. We were out late so didn't make it up for breakfast so can't comment on the food but everything else was very good. We got the check out time wrong and ended up being late out but they were very nice about it. Quite far from Edinburgh by taxi but only 20 minutes on train so worthwhile if staying for a couple of days and want to keep out of the city.

We stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and to visit family who live in Aberdour. We had to complain about the room we where given as there were stains on the duvet cover and pillow cases, we where offered the bridal suit for 1 night and given another double for our last 2 nights. Everything was ok until our last day/night we returned to our room late after a day out and discovered our belongings had been tampered with, a small radio/cd player that my wife had bought me had been removed and used and forced back in the box. We also found an opened condom rapper on the floor next to the bed which was not there when we left for our day out. We complained to the manageress who spoke to the cleaning staff who ADMITTED they had tampered with our belongings, to the hotels credit they cancelled our bill and could not apologise enough.
The staff at the hotel could not be nicer and the food was EXCELLENT but they are being let down by the cleaning staff who did not do a good job as the rooms we where given where a bit gruby and not well looked after. I would urge the owner to refurbish the rooms and make it a hotel that the staff can be proud of, as they( the staff) are the best thing about the hotel and are being let down by the state of it.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing road as traffic noise loud
