Downstairs, the foors where VERY worn/unclean,as was downstairs ladies toilet at bar area.the gents apparently were 'historic'.smelly and 'spashable'.although the bar was lovely and atmospheric, with a stunning stained glass ceiling.(the floorboards are of the same period though)scurvy warning.talikin of floors, the floors on the first floor are VERY creaky.(only for insomniacs)apart from that, nice rooms.morning desk staff are very grumpy too,but lovely locale makes up for that.forget deep fried brekky.

Myself and my family (2 adults and 3 kids) stayed here in the family room for two nights. The room was very clean and everything we needed was there. Our friends got married at st fillons church and the hotel was very well situated, they also had the reception at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to everybody's needs and the food was delicious. We would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to see a beautiful part of scotland and we will definitely be staying there again.

The rooms are a bit basic but they contain what you need. The hotel staff are friendly and the food is good quality. There's a small bar and restaurant, a car park at the rear of the hotel and a few pubs nearby.

me, my husband and our 3 year old stayed here for 1 night. It's an old style hotel with no refurbishments, the cleanliness of the room and bathroom was very very poor, there was obvious dust and dirt all over. that's a bit upsetting when travelling with a child...
I probably had my worst dinner ever in this place. my husband's was ok though and the breakfast was good.
the staff was very thoughtful and kind enough to bring a box of toys for our son. we appreciated that. too bad that the downsides made us rate this hotel as poor.

Found that Edinburgh was all booked up (or horrendously expensive) this particular weekend so we picked this hotel.

Very lucky choice, lovely small town only a short train journey from the centre of Edinburgh. Hotel is a great, old fashioned place with really nice rooms and friendly staff.

We will certainly go back and I would definitely recommend it.

I vaguely remembered this hotel from a previous stay ten years ago, but this time we were travelling with two small children so had the family room. Everything was perfect - the room was huge and clean. The staff were amazing. The food ( we had dinner twice and four breakfasts during our stay) was great. The location was perfect. Maybe it helped that we were visiting old friends and that the weather was beautiful? We will stay again though and will recommend it to others. Thank you for a great long weekend!
