5 star luxury accommodation with beautiful views. Lovely town with excellent eateries within easy walking distance. Lots of interesting places to visit including beautiful St Andrews within short drive.
This property was booked after very careful consideration of a number of rental properties in the Fife area. Excellent comms with Fife Holiday Homes (& even the owner at one point). Ideally located to tour the immediate area, within easy reach of loads of places worth a visit, from the other seaside villages, Secret Bunker, Craigtoun Country Park, Fisheries Museum, Kellie Castle, Scottish Deer Centre, etc etc. Loads of great places to eat - including a fantastic High Tea available at the next door Anster West Golf Club, the famous Anstruther Chippie, Indian and Chinese.
Initial impressions on arrival were somewhat marred by the shared parking arrangements (a concern we'd thought we'd ironed out before booking), a broken garage door which was unusable and a buckled key for access to the main property (fortunately it worked and we straightened it out carefully over the week). In addition the keys provided for the other door to the conservatory would lock the door from inside, but not outside, so we'd no choice but to use the buckled key.
On establishing the garage was unusable (broken spar inside) we managed to squeeze both cars into the parking area allocated for the property and spoke with the lovely owners upstairs to ensure they were happy with that. All was well until we came back one evening to find they had visitors and a 3rd vehicle parked where we'd parked our other one. This resulted in us only just being able to squeeze one car in & had to park the other one nearby for the night (not ideal with aging parents and young kids!)
The property itself was in the main very nice, with loads of lovely touches. However the was a lack of attention to detail (or pre rental checks) with several bulbs out - hall table lamp, main bedroom reading light, one of the kitchen underlighters and a bathroom bulb. In addition the wall integrated conservatory heater didn't appear to work, which is why presumably there was a standalone unit which we actually required to relocate to the larger twin bedroom as it was always very cold (despite the heating being on). The remote for the conservatory TV didn't work - presumably the batteries were done!
The kitchen could have been a bit better stocked, with for example smaller cereal bowls and plastic cups & bowls for children (only huge soup type bowls were there). There was also a few 'foosty' items in the larder cupboard which had presumably been there for some time ! And the Nespresson machine hadn't been cleaned since the last time the property was used (may have been some time?) A bit more storage for food items would have been handy too - maybe a shelf above the sink?
Ok, so there are a few negative points above, but overall it is a lovely property, with a beautiful lounge and conservatory, and absolutely fabulous sea views/garden. It just needs a bit more attention to detail and improved parking arrangements and it would be 5*.
P.s The couple upstairs used a bright moth attracting light for 3 nights whilst we stayed there. As this light was on in their garden all night outside two of the properties bedrooms, it should be noted that it lit up the two bedrooms which wasn't ideal.
