I had a reservation at The Bank for 3 nights but when I showed up they said I had canceled my reservation a few days after I made it back in September. They were "kind" enough to find me a room at their sister hotel for the first 2 nights, transferring the deposit I paid at booking.
The problem? I never canceled my reservation. When I told them that, they said it must have been booking.com that did it because they are unable to cancel a reservation on their end. The problem with that? I didn't use booking.com, I made the reservation directly with the hotel. I still have the confirmation and receipt.
A couple of things were suspicious: 1. When I was looking for the place to check in, housekeeping seemed surprise b/c they had a party that booked all 8 rooms (much better business than little ol' me and potentially unbooked rooms) and 2. They had all of my booking information right beside the till. Why would they bother for a reservation made and canceled by me a month and a half earlier through an anonymous corporate website? Also, why honor the rate and the deposit if it was my decision to break the reservation so long before?
One other note- they said they were putting me in their sister hotel which had the same star rating and amenities. Not true. At least, not according to the Scottish Tourist Board which gave the other hotel 3 stars. Not to mention it didn't have the nice TV or the mini fridge and it was a single the size of a teacup.
Please check out my other reviews. I/we stayed at a number of great places while in Scotland.
