Great little cottage. Nicely located just past Anstruther, easy nice promenade stroll into town and just far enough away for pure peace and tranquility. My wife and I booked this for my mother inlaws birthday for the weekend and it was just excellent. Everything you could possibly need is in the cottage from cooking stuff to games to stuff for your dog! You can walk to the sea front in minutes and enjoy great walks along the coastline. The owner Jonathan is very communicative and a pleasure to deal with, nothing's to much much trouble. Overall I'd highly recommend Duck cottage for a nice relaxing getaway.

“Ideal for exploring the five coast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Great cottage which is close to all attractions in the surrounding area. Would recommend, great for a night in around the great eco-fuel fire. Best places for food and drinks are Dreel tavern and the cellar restaurant.

Thanks for your review, and I'm glad you enjoyed your break and made use of the Biofuel Fireplace. I agree with you - the Dreel is my favourite pub as well, and I'm pleased the Cellar Restaurant has re-opened to excellent reviews.

“Would recommend this cottage”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

I travelled to the cottage with my wife and 2 young children (5 and 1). We have stayed at both Anstruther and St Andrews and were looking for a good base for a few days during the children's school holidays.

The cottage itself is quite easy to find if you know your way around the local area otherwise may have had some issues finding it. Kilrenny itself has no local shops, however, Cellardyke and Anstruther are very close for amenities. We were lucky as the weather was dry when we were visiting which always helps so meant that we could walk everywhere (well bar St Andrews) and were no more than a 10-15 minute walk from the cottage (minus our 1 year old walking).

At Kilrenny itself there is a small park, what im assuming is a small farm (with some horses, sheep, a wild rabbit and some pigs) and a small woodland walk (which you could also see some cows) which kept the children amused for a small time.

All in all given the value for money the cottage represents I would recommend using this property and will be looking to do the same again in the future.

Thanks for your review, and I'm pleased you had a good break. I particularly like the woodland walk on the edge of the common, and I can well imagine how the farm animals kept your young ones interested (my favourites are the pigs).

“Total Home Comforts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

Thanks to Jonathan & Connie for a wonderful week in peaceful Kilrenny. Duck Cottage was spotless and there wasn't a thing we could think of that wasn't to hand...even those useful little things like keys for half-warm radiators. The kitchen has absolutely everything you could want, theres dozens of recent DVDs, plentiful towels, and full laundry facilities if you need them. The big couches are comfy, as are the beds, and Kilrenny is tranquility itself. We'll definitely be back one day.

“Lovely cottage in quiet hamlet close to delightful Anstruther et al”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Kilrenny is so small that we were directed to the cottage by a picture and cross on the map rather than an address, but had no trouble locating it. The hamlet is expanding with some new development, but maintains a beautiful character with a church, a playing field, walks, a set of traffic lights and two dog bins. - all of which we made use of. The cottage feels like someone's cared for home rather than a rental, even so the owner kindly allows well behaved dogs (or dog in our case). A car is pretty well essential, but relatively short drives will take one to Anstruther, Elie, Crail, St Andrews or a host of golf courses and beaches. We only stayed 3 nights but wished it had been more.
