I arrived at the Golf Hotel around 8:30 pm and was warmly greeted by Kerry who showed me to my room and informed me that I was still in time for dinner. Room 8 had 2 double beds and nice clean bath but no view. I went to the dining room and had a hot dish of steak pie with fresh peas in the pod. Delicious! I proceeded to the crowded bar room where a World Cup game was in progress. I sat down with a friendly group of people from New Zealand to watch the game. Over the course of my stay I sampled several single malt whiskies with the locals, caddies and other tourists that I met. The large and comfortable indoor/outdoor dining area and excellent food are a definite plus.
The Golf Hotel is an excellent place to stay for golfing, walking the Fife Coastal Path or visiting the the historic remains of Crail Castle, the old walled harbor or the 12C church and Crail Pottery. The St Andrews to Leven bus stops right outside the door.
I had a very pleasant and memorable experience at the Golf Hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a visit to Scotland. I shall return!!!

My wife and I have stayed so many times at the Golf with our wee dog Molly. We are always welcome. The staff especially Jackie are a dream. Unfortunately we lost Molly last year and couldn't bring ourselves to go back BUT when we get our new puppy she and us will be back enjoying a stay at the Golf. The breakfast is brilliant we even had the sister in law and hubby up with us and they couldn't believe the plateful plus quality. Yes it's old but it's an old place doh. Rooms are clean staff great and food fab. Try the herring in oatmeal yum. Arthur xx

Thank you so much for the great review. Very much appreciated. However, I am so sorry to hear about Molly. She knew her way round here like the back of my hand!!! I can't wait to see the new puppy once it is trained!!! Lovely to hear from you and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Warm Regards Jackie

We arrived on Monday and shown to our room which was room 5 we were. t disappointed the room was very clean and comfortable with little extra touches like toiletries, bottled water. All the staff and locals in the dinning rooms and bars were all very friendly. Graham the owner prepares all the food which is all very nice with a great choice. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful . We will define to by back it was the best 2 days away for ages. Our 3 cavalier king Charles we also made very welcome with bones giving to them at the bar and everyone talking to them. Thank you all very much x

We are in Crail quite a bit and the Golf Hotel is the main bar and restaurant in the village. The bar is small and has a nice cosy atmosphere. The restaurant is on two levels. We ended up on the upper level. Style wise it reminds me of the restaurant by parents in law owned in the 1980's. Not terribly modern and a wee bit tired. I can live with that if the food is good. Our meals, fish and chips and steak pie with lots of veg were fine and big portions too but along with decor the menu felt like it needed a bit of a refresh. Other things like serving the wine with a napkin tied around the neck and bringing out the cheese on a plate with a paper doily reinforced this feeling of a place with a lot of potential but needs a reboot.

Can't fault the staff, they were attentive and efficient.

You can (but you have to ask for it) have a bar meal in the bar. Unless you are having one of their high teas (which look very good) I would probably ask for that next time and yes I would go back.

Adequate meal and experience, cheery brightly lit place, cheerful services that belied later indifference. We requested 4 times before a water pitcher showed up on the table. My exact notes read: Lasagna full of potatoes but no pasta.
If you have to eat here; please order beers first.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your meal. The Lasagne is made on the premises and has no potatoes in it. The only time it would have potatoes added is if it were a Vegetarian Lasagne. Kind Regards

Having read some of the reviews regarding The Golf Hotel in Crail I wonder which establishment some of these people attended. I have lived in the village a number of years and what you see is what you get, a small hotel catering to mainly golfers coming to play the local courses and the occasional visitors coming to see the villages around the East Neuk of Fife. Personally I prefer the golfers as they tend to be more honest about what they are looking for, others you wonder why they don't go to the larger hotels in St Andrews and pay silly money for a lot colder service. The staff on the whole at The Golf have been there for a number of years and will bend over backwards to help you, especially Graham, Richard, Kirsty, Hope and Jacks. Linda is a law unto herself and once you get to know her a super host and the younger girls in the restaurant have certainly never given cause for concern when I have been there. I see reviews complaining that the girls are cleaning tables between customers, I would damn well hope so, if I was eating there I would want a clean table. I see reviews from people sitting next to the door to the beer garden and complaining of the draught coming through, either the restaurant was totally full, which would be some going for a small country pub/hotel, some 60 covers if memory serves me right or they chose to sit there themselves in which case why are they complaining. Others seem surprised that there aren't any tables available, surely a sign of good food at reasonable prices? What is that they want? The Ritz on a budget? The Golf is a great wee village pub to the locals and a hotel to visitors, so some of the visitors might not like some of the locals, maybe a bit different to what they are used to, but they should not forget it is a small village they are coming to and not the great metropolis. We can be strange in the country you know. As to some of the visitors, if you want five star accommodation and cordon bleu cooking, go to the Old Course or similar establishments. If you want reasonable prices, good honest food and some craic with the locals go to The Golf
