“Charmingly Compact and Cosy”

Tiny, one-bedroom cottage, well heated with a real fire plus heaters. Pet-friendly with a securely fenced garden. Bathroom in need of a make-over, but perfectly adequate and a modern kitchen,, equipped for two. Could have done with a couple of ovenproof serving dishes but fine otherwise. A problem with the heating was fixed within the hour! Well done Kingask! Easy walk to village facilities and harbour; stunning view across the Firth to the Isle of May. Price was very reasonable.

“Jekyll and Hyde”

I like to provide a fair review because I am aware that it could affect someone's livelihood but I also believe that I must be fair to prospective guests. I take no pleasure in writing this review but I was so disappointed with the accommodation and tariff that I wrote to the property manager with my concerns. To date I have not received an acknowledgment and feel that I have no other option than to record our experiences.
I have to say in defence of the property that it is situated in a quiet rural area with marvellous views across the Forth , the kitchen was very clean and well appointed with all necessary appliances for a self catering stay. Unfortunately that is the best I can say and here are some of the facts which prevented us enjoying our stay. I have condensed my review otherwise it would be repetitive and sound malicious.
The property is situated beside a working farm at the end of an unmade farm track on the outskirts of Crail. It took us 20 minutes to walk into the centre of Crail. The keys are uplifted and returned to the company offices which are close to St. Andrews. This involves a drive of approximately 20 minutes. If you wish to use the Fife Coastal Trail you will have drive a little bit further to collect and deposit the keys. The keys can be delivered but you have to pay extra for that.
A number of period features have been retained within the cottage such as an open fire but after the initial provision of a small amount of fuel you have to find and supply your own. Pre set storage heaters are fitted but we think they are quite old and we found that they cooled during the day and the premises were chilly in the evening , The heater in the bathroom did not work. There are additional portable electric radiators which we had to use to keep warm. The premises were in need of renovation with old wood chip wallpaper and the soft furnishing were old, poor quality and damaged. The beds were poor quality with springs sticking up through one of the mattresses. The head boards were home made with screw points sticking through the wood. There was no additional bedding. The bathroom was miserable with an old bath, water damaged floor, broken air vent and a poor shower over the bath with a shower curtain that wraps around you because the bath is so narrow. There was no safety equipment such as a non slip bath mat or a grab rail. Particularly offensive was an instruction to strip you own bedding prior to vacating the premises. This is something we normally do voluntarily but to be instructed to do it under the threat of a financial penalty was inhospitable - but we complied under duress. Having paid £100 per night we did not want to incur any further expense. I am sorry that we cannot recommend this as it has so much potential but I think it needs upgrading and the attention of someone who knows how dress a holiday let to ensure return custom.
Jekyll and Hyde because it was initially good on the outside but turned into something nasty.

“Comfortable stay in Crail”

May Isle is the middle cottage in a row of five terraced cottages. It has a spacious private garden with a swing seat over looking the sea.
The cottage was roomy for two people and was clean and welcoming. Beds were made up ready and the heating was on, so it was snug.
The situation is very peaceful as the cottage is up a private track, but it is also within easy walking distance of Crail.

“Another wonderful time in Crail”

Fifth or sixth visit to these cottages and quality still high. We were blessed with beautiful weather and saw everything at its best. Look forward to returning.

“Worth the money and lovely little cottage for two people with super garden for our dogs to lay in!”
Reviewed 7 May 2013 for a stay in April 2013

We have been using the same cottage twice or three times a year for the past four years now, so we must like a lot!
The cottages are a little away from the main roads in Crail, so you really feel it is nice and quiet if that is the type of holiday you want..
Great area for walkers with or without dogs,or people who just want to "get away" for a few days.
Weather really does not matter as it is just lovely sitting looking out over May Isle.

“Away from it all”
Reviewed 7 February 2013 for a stay in January 2013

Location is perfect with fantastic sea views, and only a short stroll from town - the property is comfortable and peaceful with all that is required for a holiday - always a pleasure to come back to the coal fire after a good walk of which there are many around .
This is now our 15th year of returning to Kingask Cottages and we cannot wait until our next visit - we have stayed in 6 of the properties in Crail over the years and they are all good value for money.
Rustic charm and a quiet peaceful location - what more could you ask for?.

“Lovely setting, well equipped local hotel in walking distance”
Reviewed 6 December 2012 for a stay in November 2012

Yet another great stay in Crail. This is our second time in this cottage and our 20th visit to Crail. Well equipped cottage,comfortable-the only slight issue was the size of the TV screen and also the living room was quite cold-but a few brandies helped that. Bus to St andrews £13.70 for two return -great day their. Golf hotel for dinner -we will be back
