“Moatville”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

After a few days camping in the Lake District, we were looking forward to our stay in Moatville for a friends' wedding in Fernie Castle. It was perfect location-wise (15 min from Fernie by car, 5 min walking from town centre, but yet in a quiet road). Also it was very easy to park in the street. Liana had left plenty of food for our convenience. Rooms are lovely and big (never had such a big bedroom in my life!!). The only comment I have is about the quality of the beds which are a tad on the tired side, but apart from that everything was perfect and we would have liked to be able to stay longer.

Thank you for your review and I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay so much you wanted to extend your stay- you will need to make another trip to Scotland and explore this beautiful area.

What a shame you weren't comfortable in our beds- we would have happily made up the twin room as a superking double if asked. (The superking mattress topper and quilts and linens were in the cupboard and I am really sorry that I didn't know that was your preference - until I arrived to clean after your departure). I will amend our guest information for Moatville to make sure all future guests know that we have different bed and mattress option and just to ask.

We would love to welcome you again.

Best wishes

Liana

After spending a couple of nights last year in the main house and experiencing Liana's hospitality we decided to book a week long stay at Moatville.
This was a great choice well located just off the main street at Cupar on a quiet side road, parking was available in the road or on a small car park opposite. The house itself is spacious with 2 large bedrooms, a sitting room, dining room, very well equipped kitchen and a shower room. Plenty of room for the 4 of us.
We opted for the DIY breakfast option, which was excellent, Liana supplied us with cereals, yoghurts, bread, juice, tea coffee etc, lovely homemade marmalade and compote, along with all you need for a cooked sottish/english breakfast including our favourite smokies which went down really well again! Thank you very much for those.
Beds were all comfortable, no noise at all from the street at night. Plenty of hot water. The garden was lovely to relax in after a day walking.
We all had a really enjoyable stay, thank you!

Thank you so much for all your positive comments about our newest venture Moatville.

Moatville was my own home when I first moved to Fife and for most people the location is perfect, quiet street, supermarket on door step, town centre a few minutes walk away. Parking and a garden tick boxes too. I jumped at the chance to buy it back last year.

We fitted the house with high thermal efficiency secondary glazing (as the windows can't be altered) and these are fantastic at sound proofing too.

We are finding our DIY breakfast option very popular as it saves someone (usually the mum!) having to go food shopping when on holiday. We are happy to stock the fridge with our guests favourites.

Looking forward to welcoming you again.

We stayed here a couple of years ago...it's great! The hosts were lovely and couldn't do enough for us...even took care of our laundry while we had a day out. As another reviewer has already said "true Scottish hospitality." Thank you for having us.

Wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed our Scottish hospitality, thank you so much.

With two children, our washing machine is very busy and we are always happy to throw in guests clothes to make up loads.(To me it seems silly having guests washing pants, socks and tops in the sink in their room when they can be done in the machine using solar electricity and dried outside in the fresh unpolluted Scottish air)

We will even do a full load, if time permits, we aim for a 24 hour turnaround.

I will happily give guests an iron and ironing board but these are not in the bedrooms- personally I can't think many things more likely to ruin a romantic evening away than sharing my bedroom with a ironing board.

We would love to welcome you again next time you come up from down under.

An excellent B&B in everyway. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent. Liana, as the hostess, was more than helpful. Loved the outer room which was very pleasant for crackers, cheese and wine. We especially enjoyed the fact that this was a home. Wonderful experience.

We are delighted that you enjoyed sharing our home for a couple of days and thank you so much for your wonderful comments.

Our summer house gives a flexible private space to relax and watch the sunset especially when the Scottish weather is not kind enough to allow guests to sit on the patio in the evening.

We hope you will return from the other side of the Atlantic soon, still some Golf courses in Fife on the "to play" list.

Good health and best wishes to you all.

Wester Dura is sort of how I would like my home to be, really! It is peaceful there and the rooms are tastefully decorated with so much attention to detail. Nothing is too much trouble. It was lovely to feel relaxed and at home so quickly after a long journey. There are lots of little treats in the room itself, but there is a fridge outside for any additional goodies you might wish to purchase. The breakfast was wonderful too and I was able to have my favourite Arbroath smokies as well. I have stayed in Little Dura before which is just as nice as the main farmhouse. Liana is the perfect hostess and even went to the trouble of collecting me from the railway station as I arrived so late. Why can't all B&B's be like Wester Dura?!

Room Tip: All rooms equally lovely. Little Dura is ideal for self catering.

Thank you so much for your lovely review.

With two teenagers I am always popping down the road to Cupar to collect or drop them off at dance or study groups etc and we offer guests a lift at the same time in an attempt to be environmentally responsible. We also have a great flexi- taxi bus service which we can prebook for guests and the service can meet guests at the train station or take them to some of the great restaurants and wedding venues locally.

B&B should be more than simple a bed, we aim to make a warm welcoming environment where guests feel at home and hopefully a wee bit special too. Glad you enjoyed the smokies. I love living in Fife and having such a great range of local foods on the doorstep.

Next time, come for a holiday and not just to work!

Best wishes

I stayed here last week and we had both of the twin rooms in the farmhouse. Liana was very welcoming, it felt more like staying with friends than a B&B. The rooms were both spotless and well decorated, with every amenity you could wish for. Toiletries were available, with little notes everywhere telling you to ask if there was anything else you need. There's a fridge just outside the room, with chilled drinks available for a reasonable cost, as well as water and milk for your coffee.
Downstairs is a lounge/dining room for guests to use, with puzzles and games to pass the time. There are also plenty of books if you would rather read than watch TV.
Outside there is a lovely garden, a patio area and a small summer house/conservatory with views across the fields towards Cupar.
The breakfast was great, you can pre-order the night before so you're not waiting ages for your cooked breakfast.
I would efinitely stay here again, and can't recommend it highly enough.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and your recommendations to others to say with us.

I have run Wester Dura for eight years and we know all guests need different things to enjoy their stay. We've all gone away and left something simple at home that we need and we hope our welcoming atmosphere and little notes encourages guests to ask, rather than be stuck or driving to the supermarket to buy toothpaste or similar. Much like being a friends house.

We have deliberately kept both the dining/lounge and summerhouse free from TV so guests who prefer conversation, games or curling up with magazines or books can do so comfortably.

The bedrooms all have LCD TVs with Freeview and DVD player and a wide DVD library are available for those who prefer to watch.

We would love you to stay again and look forward to seeing you all again.

Best wishes
