“THE GUEST HOUSE AT KAMES/NEAR ST. ANDREWS”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

The Guest House at Kames is LOVELY. We spent 7 nights with Craig and Morag in May. If you are planning a visit to the St. Andrews areas this is the guest house for you for many reasons.
First, Craig and Morag love Scotland and want to share all of its wonders. They know those inside secrets – the best restaurants no guide book details, the best driving routes for lovely seaside drives, the best fish and chips, when the trains run, where to shop, the best scotch distilleries and where and when to play golf .
Second – For Golfers –Craig knows almost every hole on almost every golf course in Scotland. Craig not only planned our golfing itinerary in the St. Andrews area, he also planned our itinerary for our 20 day stay in Scotland - and it was perfect. His knowledge of all the golf courses and his selection of hotels for us as we travel throughout were well planned and perfect. He booked us on the best courses and this was all achieved after we arrived at his guest house, which was an added bonus. We were able to discuss each option with a very knowledgeable Scot who is also an avid addicted golfer. (www.golfingthekingdom.com)
Third - The accommodations are very special, we had a lovely room overlooking the rolling fields of Fife, each morning we were greeted with this spectacular view. The room was spotless and all the extras, were there --- even a little nip of the famous single malt for the ending of the evening, homemade candy treats and Morag’s freshly backed cakes. The breakfasts where wonderful. The breakfast room was a lovely glass enclosed venue with those spectacular field views – fresh French press coffee, fresh fruit, juice- fresh squeezed of course, lovely pastries, a spectacular array of jams and terrific lemon curd and hot or cold cereals. Whether it was Craig’s day or Morag’s day as head chef, they each had a special touch resulting in a very delicious Scottish breakfast, sourced from local food providers --- the eggs, sausage and smoked poached haddock were the best.
Our stay at the Kames Guest House was the perfect beginning for our trip through Scotland. With the assistance of both Craig and Morag our days, after we left their company, were all a trip to Scotland should be. So --- begin you Scotland holiday and golfing adventure with a stay at the Guest House at Kames, with Craig and Morag as your hosts and travel/golfing planners.

Hospitality at its very its very best. David and Morag are the perfect hosts. Beautiful room that catered for your every need, first class breakfast in the morning. But mostly for me it made me proud to be a Scot, knowing that visitors to our country who were lucky enough to stay at the guest house at Kames would experience such a perfect warm Scottish welcome. Five star plus from us

I stayed at the guesthouse for nearly a week whilst working nearby. I just cannot express how fabulous my stay was. The room was immaculate and well laid out with views of the rolling Fife countryside. Tablet left in the room on the tea tray was a nice touch, homemade by Morag, of course. A complimentary miniature of malt whisky. Breakfast was superb with as much or as little as you wanted. Craigs hospitality was second to none. The location is stunning, nice and quiet but only a few miles from Cupar and beyond. There was also a nice lounge area between the rooms where you could sit and talk. I cannot wait to go back and work in the area again because I know where I will be staying.

I can't praise this Guest House enough. We visited as a group of 4 adults and 2 children for an overnight and Craig and Morag couldn't have been more welcoming or accommodating. They offer two beautifully furnished en-suite rooms with TV's (no dvd - so mums might want to bring their own) with a lovely little lounge area situated between the rooms. They put a small double bed into the larger room to accommodate the children and there was still room to move around comfortably. This was particularly great, as it allowed the adults to sit together in a comfortable space, knowing that the children were safely asleep in bed a few feet away. This just wouldn't have been the case in standard hotel rooms. Although the accommodation was within the house, it somehow managed to feel like a separate annex. Morag's home-baked lemon drizzle cake was amazing along with complimentary tablet, chocolates, malt-whisky miniatures, bottled water, drinks for the children, toiletries - everything was so thoughtful - there were even games, books and magazines. The house is in a beautiful location, immaculately clean and, quite frankly, we didn't want to leave. As my husband put it - a bed you didn't want to get out of, a shower you didn't want to leave (5 stars for the shower alone!) and a breakfast table you didn't want to get up from. We have already booked our next visit. Carlsberg don't do guest houses but if they did …..

Stayed recently for one night whilst visiting family in area. Stunning location looking out over open countryside. The bedroom was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent and Morag and Craig were excellent hosts. We drove into St Andrews the next day which was no distant at all. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to visit this area.

Stayed here for one night on a trip to see family. It's a lovely house in a quiet location; as you can see in the pictures it has huge windows which look out onto the surrounding countryside, perfect for a relaxing break. Plenty of off-road parking available and within easy reach of St Andrews, the East Neuk and the wonderful Peat Inn (where we had lunch - highly recommended). Slept in the Montrave suite - super comfy mattress (I want one for home) and nice wee decorative touches all through the house. Loved it and would definitely come back!
