“Excellent hostess with high standards”
Reviewed 3 February 2013

Thanks Julie for welcoming us for our last minute break!
Our room was huge but so cosy and clean. Wifi and Freeview available.
Breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice available.
Fresh milk for our room, homemade shortbread and homemade jams for breakfast add that personal touch.
Excellent base for exploring Fife on a beautiful sunny Saturday.
We wish you the very best for the 2013 season!

My friend and myself both stayed a night at the Dunclutha Guest House as part of an organised walking holiday of The Fife Coastal Path in June 2012.The food at Dunclutha was exceptional and really set us up for the day ahead. The Guest house itself is very spacious and homely and it was so lovely to meet Julie, who was very friendly and welcoming in settling us in.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wish Julie and Richard every success for the future.

We spent our 30th "honeymoon" here in the Butter"Scotch" suite for a wonderful weekend of romance and golf, that is...lot's of both! The hosts were dedicated to our relaxation and convenience from the first moment they received our email requesting a romantic quiet room. They had a true scotsman breakfast that of cousre filled you to the brim and ready for 36 holes of golf or more....
We would return to this fantatic guest house, an historic home built many generations ago as a rectory for the church on lovely Victoria Road in the Kingdom of Fife.

Room Tip: Plan to walk to the sea hand in hand with your special loved one to really sea what Level links are...

I stayed here for 2 nights, for a golf refereeing assignment at Leven Links. I spoke with co-proprietor Julie Hind prior to my arrival to confirm an acceptable time zone in which to do so. She was 100% flexible. Upon my arrival she and her husband Richard - the other co-proprietor - were very welcoming. I needed a cooked breakfast at 6.15am, both Saturday and Sunday morning. No problem! In many other places I have stayed, this has been a no-no.

They have masses of information about not just local golf clubs, but the surrounding parts of Scotland. All of it up to date. There is a lovely guest's lounge for you to utilise, and each room has freeview television. In terms of golf, Leven Links is only five minutes walk away. Lundin Golf Club, another championship course, is only ten minutes away by car. The Dunclatha is also popular with walkers.

There is a small parking area in what used to be part of the front garden, but on street parking right outside the property is ample anyway.

Julie and Richard took over the property in November, so if you have stayed here prior to that date, forget your experience, good or bad. It was clear from my conversations with the couple that they have invested a lot of time and effort to make the Dunclatha (pronounced Doonclatha!) a superb experience for any guest. I have stayed in a great number of bed and breakfasts, both for work and leisure. The Dunclatha is the best I have ever stayed in.

Thank you so much for your glowing review, apologies for the not very professional time it's taken to reply though.
We try to accommodate each and every guest as individual and sometimes breakfast is needed earlier which is no problem at all, especially for you and also workmen that stay with us or people just needing an early start.
We. Ow also have a hot tub in the rear garden for guest to use, ideal for golfers, walkers and anyone who just needs to chill out.
Thank you once again.
Best wishes

Basic B&B in run down ex-seaside town. Unsure why this is graded at 4*. Decor is old fashioned, furniture is old and of poor quality. Room tidy - but could have been cleaner. Shower small and difficult to regulate. Beds cimfy and linen good. Breakfast generally OK. I must be missing something with all the wonderful comments in the visitors' book - but basically it was a rather average B&B. Tidy, warm and somewhere to rest your head. If you have to stay in Leven ( can't think why you would) then its a reasonable place for a night's sleep - but if you are holidaying in the area there are 100 other B7Bs that would probabaly offer you something better.

We enjoyed our stay at Dunclutha Guest House very much. I was a bit suprised that our hostess did not intorduce herself or show us where the lounge or breakfast area was but after reading her post, she had a lot on her plate at the time. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. John really enjoyed the french press coffee and the Jam was excellent.

We were booked into this guest house by the company running our hiking trip. When we arrived there was no one there at 3 pm in the afternoon even though we were told we could check in after 2 pm. Being from the states we had no way to call as we had no telephone that worked in the UK. After waiting outside 30+ minutes her son-in-law came and saw us sitting there and called her for us. When she got home she never applogized for being out or offered any explination. We were supposed to have an en-suite, come to find out that since there were others staying paying a higher rate we got bumped to the room with no en-suite, but a bath across the hall. Our room had porn magazines on all the bookshelves. I don't mean to be prudish, but that is just not acceptable. The one bright spot was breakfast where there was wonderful strawberry jam.

I am very sorry that you were unhappy with your stay.
I was horrified about the comments about the magazines - I have checked the room tonight and found the 2 offending magazines. I normally check magazines which guests leave but it was an oversight on my part. I do not approve of any magazine of that type in my house and will make sure that never happens again.
I am sorry I wasn't in when you arrived but I was not told that you would be arriving early by the walking company and they didn't ask me when would be suitable.
I normally do my shopping in the afternoon after we have cleaned the rooms etc and therefore rarely accept guests arriving early afternoon - a lot of walkers arrive by tea time which is when I would have been expecting you.
In my defence, my husband has been ill since the end of June and timing things right with all guests is difficult -especially when I don't know when they are arriving. I have been back and forward to the hospital and the doctor with him and therefore my time table can run late.
I am afraid I am not clear which day you stayed - I have looked at my diary for the 12th but that was the week of the Open - I assume you stayed before that date.
All my rooms are charged at the same rate and I did not "bump" you off with an inferior room - I often give that particular room to walkers because they can soak their weary bones in the bath - there was a shower over the bath as well, I did provide a bathrobe and the bathroom was private - for your use only.
I may have had to move your room but it would not be because I was charging more in any other room - I don't do that.
I do apologise again but I can only go out in the early part of the afternoon and cannot be tied to the house all day otherwise there would be nothing for my guests to eat for breakfast.
Thank you for the comment about the strawberry jam.
