Lunch for 3 - good service, familiar surroundings. Fish & chips an 8/10, Sea Bass 7/10 (rather overdone with chilli oil), curried chicken madras would have been great with more chicken. Around 60% of it was baby sweet corn & courgette, with an OK sauce. Teensie naans & Lilliputian sized mango chutney accompanied this dish, so a 6/10 for this. As I left significant numbers of people were complaining about meals that had not arrived or missing chips etc etc & waiting for ages.....

After arriving at the Crusoe and acquiring a table on the pier, we decided to order lunch at the bar. Plenty of staff available to serve, but was overlooked twice only to be served once the people behind me were happy! Food was served on the pier, average service by average staff. On observing the table service we noticed that staff served up food but were pretty reluctant to clear adjacent tables which accumulated waste, glasses, napkins, cigarette ends etc. to blow about in the sea breeze. It was 50 minutes before any staff attempted to clear away any tables, even when people were still arriving to find a place to sit in the sun. Most people left probably noticing that there was no chance of anyone clearing the tables. Such a shame as it is a lovely area to go to.

As our 14 April booking for 21 May to 24 May was cancelled by the Crusoe Hotel with barely 24 hours prior notice, we were thoroughly dissatisfied. The reason for the cancellation was a very inspecific "damage to the room". Curiously, staff at the Crusoe were unable to say what the damage was, which is quite difficult to believe. Damage to a room in a relatively small hotel that renders the room uninhabitable will certainly be known to all hotel staff. We asked for a more in depth explanation but none has been provided by Lynn. Consequently, we became doubtful that we were given the true story.

While we understand that things do happen, the lack of communication from the Crusoe management is not understandable. We did go to the hotel even though the booking had been cancelled. Staff on duty advised in person that they did not know what the damage was, but that they were sure there was no fire, water, or smoke damage to our assigned room. We were not given an opportunity to judge for ourselves if the condition of the room was acceptable to us. Sadly, requests for specifics that are met by lack of knowledge, generalities, and silence will be taken as negative.

To management's credit, we were offered three nights and a complimentary meal at their sister hotel, the Dunnikier House in Kirkcaldy, which we accepted for one night due to time constraints, and, finding Dunnikier House completely unacceptable for our purposes on several levels, we moved on to the Caledonian in Leven which was much more appropriate for our needs.

As we were not provided with the booking for which we were charged a booking fee, we requested a refund of that fee. We did not cancel, the Crusoe Hotel cancelled us. As of this date, 7 June, we have had no response to that request either.

My partner and I stayed here for one night only. On arrival staff were really nice and friendly. Room was a good size and had good views over the water but there was so much condensation in between the panes of glass that we had to pull the windows up to enjoy the view.
The room as did much of the hotel needed a makeover but it was clean. The bed was actually two single beds pushed together so was not as comfy as a double. There was ample hot water but the shower had very little pressure. It was a cold day when we stayed but the heating came on in the room about 4pm and was lovely and cosy then.
Breakfast next morning was delicious with a varied menu of hot food, along with cereals, fruit, juices and plenty of freshly made tea and coffee.
Again when we were leaving the staff were very friendly and although the hotel is old and tired we still enjoyed our stay

We came across this place by chance and had a bar meal here. It was very good and the service was swift, friendly and efficient.the whole place was buzzing with a pleasant atmosphere. There was a group from Eyemouth having a sing-song in a large upstairs room, turned out it was an annual trip they made. the hotel was large enough that his was not obtrusive. Recommended as a place to eat, wish we'd stayed here.
