Planned a short trip for family event but wished it could have been longer. Hotel was fantastic. Room had excellent views over the bay. Staff were very friendly and food was excellent. Great base for visiting attractions in the area. Traditional Scottish breakfast every morning and then a walk along sandy beach with rock pools when the tide was out. Lively bar with Scottish Folk music and large screen TV to watch the World Cup. Bedroom very quiet. Will visit again.

We reserved a table as we has heard it was a really nice place and thought it might be busy. On arrival we were shown to our table and the restaurant looked lovely and was clean and tidy. There were four tables with people seated for meals. Two of theses tables only had 2 people at them so the restaurant was not busy. There were 6 members of staff working in the restaurant and bar. We sat for a good 10 minutes and we're not asked if we wanted a drink. I had to ask a waitress if we could order drinks. We sat for another 5 minutes before a staff member realised we had no menus. To be fair the female staff members were very busy ..... looking at themselves in the large mirror situated in the bar and seemed totally uninterested in serving any customers. The food was good pub food but nothing more. Points go to the chef for trying to be creative with a rhubarb trifle in a little jar. Unfortunately the spoon that was already on the table would not fit in the jar and no other spoon was provided on presentation of the dessert. A staff member saw the dilemma and eventually brought a tea spoon which did fit in the jar. The meringue was under cooked but it did look lovely. One major no no for me was when staff collected the plates. The plates were taken to the bar area and the dirty plates and cutlery are organised there prior to them being covered with a tea towel and taken back to the kitchen. I thought this was poor as people were attending the bar to order drinks. I noticed another customer was served the wrong soup because the menu changed and another customer who ordered the same dessert as my Dad, the rhubarb trifle, had no cream on top. All in all we were very disappointed and won't be returning to the Crusoe, not because of the food because on the whole it was good, but staff attention was very very poor.

Room Tip: Decent pub style food. Much better within a five minute drive.

We were entertaining a group of good friends in Fife and had booked a dinner for sixteen in the Alexander Selkirk Room. With the help of the staff, we had pre-chosen a short menu of food with a 1960s theme - which proved to be excellent. The service was prompt and very attentive with relaxing gaps between the courses - and the food was good and well prepared in line with the theme - with generous portions all round. Well done to all at the Crusoe.

Right on the harbour, public rooms are old world charm, bedrooms have been modernised with contemporary finishes flat screen TV etc. For someone who loves a quiet hotel room all I could hear in the morning wwas the sea.... Breakfast cooked to order -a bonus when buffet now so common in the chain hotels and good choice - if I were being picky my scrambled eggs (compared to a friend who had likewise 10 mins later) a bit overdone but all else good with prompt service despite having a sudden rush of guests. Plan to stay again next year.

Room Tip: Room 10 I stayed in and faces the sea

We were met here by very good friends whilst on the Fife Coastal Path walk and consumed a spot of Lunch, the restaurant is a shrine to the adventures of Robinson Crusoe (Inspired by the real life adventure of Alexander Selkirk)
The food was acceptable once delivered, we waited almost 1 hour which you may wish to take into account if on a schedule?

What a delightful place to have lunch, very friendly staff with a brilliant dog friendly attitude especially when its a hot day and you have been down the beach and fancy a wee refreshment!! The meal itself was amazing, overall a very pleasurable experience with fab weather and views to top it off!!

Visited this hotel on Sunday, 11 May 2014, & was pleasantly surprised at the excellent quality of the refreshments provided, namely a couple of pints of Bellhaven for me & a large pot of tea for my driving companion.

Previously when we have visited Lower Largo we have gone to the Railway Inn, but this time due to the nonchalant attitude of the rather bored woman behind the bar, who advised that she was too busy to make a cup of coffee, we left and went across the road to the Crusoe. In hindsight the woman did us a favour and when we next visit Lower Largo it will again be the Crusoe Hotel as opposed to the Railway Inn.
