This is an immaculately kept, perfectly kitted-out holiday lodge in a great location, on the "sunset" side of Arran, a short walk from the village of Blackwaterfoot, which has great local amenities.
The accommodation is comfortable, clean, bright and airy with high ceilings and exposed wood giving it a slightly Alpine feel. Great views across to Goatfell and nearby hills, with a handy terrace to watch the sunset.
Good location, just a half hour from the ferry and handy for Blackwaterfoot which boasts a hotel with nice pool, bar, and restaurant, the island's only butcher, and a well-stocked Post Office/shop (a wider range of exotic gins and fever tree tonics I've never seen in a local shop!).
Well- equipped kitchen allowed us to cook island delights from said butcher while the hotel was handy for meals out.
Great for walking to the King's Cave and a short drive from Machrie Mor standing stones. Easy to get to Broadick to climb Goatfell and visit the nearby Arran brewery, Equally handy for Lochranza with its castle and distillery- all worth a visit, the brewery especially.
Great to have such a lovely home-from home on those rainy days when we were recovering from lots of hiking the day before.
The owner, Linda, provides lots of local books and guides as well as a stock of board games for quiet days. Handy to have WiFi too, though I enjoyed pretending we didn't so I could get away from all! TV signal not always great, but this is a Scottish island, so that's expected. DVD player meant we could watch our favourite films instead.
Arrived on an early ferry and was able to get into the lodge it was lovely and cosy as it was quite fresh outside, lodge was very well equipped with everything we needed and more. The park was well looked after and the owner was friendly and chatty, Lucy our granddaughter had a ball and enjoyed looking for rabbits, red squirrels and all the different birds, even seeing an owl on Sunday night. Would recommend the lodge to family and friends.
If you want to get away from it all then this is the perfect place. The location is great with only a short walk to the beach (and a great little cafe on the nearby golf course which is a real sun spot with a great view). The lodge itself is cozy but with every modern convenience. The lodge is on one level and well designed making it a great place for those with mobility problems. Sitting out the back of the lodge, in the sun, watching the rabbits is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I will definitely be back soon!
The location is a great base for exploring the island whatever the weather. Warm and welcoming after a long walk. The kitchen well stocked with all you need to prepare the local produce. We were lucky enough to see the otters close to beaches at Blackwaterfoot and Kildonan. Over the last few years we have enjoyed a number of visits to the Lodge in the company of friends and family and hope to be able to do so again very soon.
We have enjoyed several holidays at Luangwa Lodge, we love the comfort of the lodge, the peaceful situation, and the wonderful views. Close to the Arran coastal path, it is ideal for exploring the coastline with many opportunities to enjoy the sea birds and other wildlife. The chalet is very well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable self catering holiday.
Lodge is located on well kept site within a short drive from Blackwaterfoot where there is a beautiful, sandy beach, restaurants, shops, play park, hotel with swimming pool. Great views across the Skiskine Valley and towards Goat Fell, very peaceful and relaxing - red squirrels seen regularly running around outside. The lodge itself is modern and cosy with all the facilities you would need. A great base for exploring the island and lots to do for families.
