“fine night away”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

Booked this last minute for a night away. Quirky place, with a small but comfy room. Really enjoyed the fabulous breakfast. We had a lovely meal in the evening in the conservatory followed by a nice evening in the bar where there was a great singer on...Nice wine list and prosecco by the glass - lovely. Could not believe what we paid, superb value for a bed for the night inc. breakfast. Easy to find and plenty parking. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend or come back !

Booked this at super short notice, 2 days till arrival. Couldn't believe how cheap the rates were for everything that was included. Breakfast, car parking and wifi all included. I thought that there must be a catch!

Arrived and the welcome was friendly. The room was a good size but as others have said the bathrooms could use an update. There were tea and coffee making facilities as well as free shampoo, soaps and sewing kit in the bathroom. For what we paid this was incredible.

The breakfast was good, choice of 4 different cereals, yoghurt and juice and a menu with lots of choice including plenty for veggies. We had a veggie breakfast one morning, pancakes another and scrambled egg on toast on our last morning, something that isn't featured on the menu but the lady was happy to oblige.

The only downside was that our room was very cold but to be honest if we'd had mentioned it I'm sure it would have been rectified. We didn't mention it in the end as we were so busy we rushed out each morning and got back late each night!

Bus stop is literally right outside the door and service is regular. Lovely Inn and would come back.

We stayed there for 2 nights and it was perfect! The manager Adam was SUPER helpful and wonderfully accommodating. My boyfriend and I flew in from FL and had no idea where anything was, how to get in touch with taxis, the bussing system, etc… Adam and staff were extremely helpful in everything. Especially in prearranging a taxi ride. They were very knowledgable, knew how to give directions, and again NICE. It was very pleasant staying at place that we felt welcomed. The rooms are cozy. It's a PERFECT "mom and pop" Bed and Breakfast hotel. Oh, and FREE WIFI- nice touch. The only downfall are the bathrooms in the rooms. The actual bathroom itself is not bad; however, the shower is a bit small and can be easily overlook. There is a pub inside the hotel too! It's great! The breakfast was DELICIOUS! And again, extremely affordable. You MUST try their Steak Pie- best thing on the menu. It was perfect for what we needed. We WILL be back when we visit Scotland! Thank you again Adam and Staff you all were wonderful.

I found this B&B difficult to reach, the directions on their site were good up to a certain point then... now what??? I eventually found someone who knew where Lasswade was so he gave me directions or I'd still be wandering round. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and the evening meal was lovely. We didn't have breakfast as we had an early flight so can't comment. Very handy for getting in and out of Edinburgh city centre as the bus stops just outside the door, so you can leave the car and relax, which is what we did. the room was okay.

We stayed here for 5 nights in August. There are 7 rooms available above the pub. Very convenient. Our room had a full size bed and a twin. We sere so surprised at how quiet it was. last call during the week is 11pm, but we never heard any noise from downstairs or in the parking lot. Breakfast was included which was excellent. Staff was very nice. The bus stop into Edinburgh is right outside the door and it only takes about 20 minutes into the city, depending on traffic. The only down side was that the room was very warm. There was a room fan that ran constantly and it was a very warm August. Price was excellent!!! Good value.

This small hotel is an attractive old coaching inn on one of the main roads from Bonnyrigg into Edinburgh, with a good and frequent bus connection (the 31 stops right opposite the inn and takes about ½ hour). There is a pleasant walk into the park area opposite the inn and up round the village. There are also a number of very good attractions a short car ride away (e.g. Vogrie Country Park and the Mining Museum). So the location is better than the actual facilities in my view.
The L&D's rooms are quite small, especially as they now contain en suite facilities. There was a bit of a foul up with our booking and we ended up having to move but were put, 'upgraded', in the family room (itself pretty small) but also offered a discount, which we appreciated as we had not asked for it. While the decor is undeniably a bit 'tired', the beds were comfy, the bedding and other provisions all fine and the shower perfectly acceptable.
The breakfast is less varied than at a larger establishment but there was a decent choice of cereals and yoghurts, as well as cooked - certainly enough food and calories to kick off the day. The cooked breakfast varied a little in quality, even with the same chef (!) but the manageress was really welcoming and helpful on all of our 4 days. We did not try the main meals, which are very reasonably priced and decent (or so I heard from relatives). Sadly, I failed to try the bar, especially when I looked through the whisky selection when paying our bill.

Room Tip: As an old coaching inn, one is by the road or car park, where some deliveries were noisy, especially...

We stayed here for two nights. We were four guys staying for the British Open. This was our fourth stay. The staff were friendly and attentive.Great variety of beers etc,at good prices.and the food was spot on .Especially the haggis breakfast. The rooms could do with a little updating, but we had clean towels, bedding etc.The situation is perfect for Edinburgh.By bus £1.50 per person,or taxi £3.50 each.
We shall look forward to our next stay.
