“Lovely staff and dinner”
Reviewed 25 September 2013 via mobile

We stayed for two nights. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food at dinner was very good and breakfast was a good size with perfectly cooked eggs. The room was large with both shower and bath. Only fault was the tired carpets in the stairway and bedroom but all areas were clean.
If you are expecting a country house hotel you might be disappointed by the development of a new housing estate in close proximity with workmen and generators etc starting up at 0730 each day! But this is not something the hotel can control.

Thank you, for taking time to write a review. we love to read the good and the not so good, after your kind word you do indeed point out that Houses are being built, and thease are beyond our control, But the builders have worked hard to keep the noise to a minimum and we as neighbours look forward to welcoming the new occupants to the INN , as they settle in.

Just spent a week at this hotel that has three strengths that make for an enjoyable stay;good food, personal and friendly attention and a nice country house ambiance. The only slight down sides are that the general decor is a wee bit tired and the bathroom in our room could have done with an upgrade. This said the overall impression was very favourable and I would thank all the staff for this positive feeling. We felt the experience could be enhanced by real fires in the public areas, just as a suggestion. The location is good and there is plenty to do especially if you are interested in malt whisky and outdoor pursuits. We did feel that the local towns might have lost out to the overall draw of the distillery visitor centres. As a cyclist there are plenty of routes flat and challenging in the locale.

Room Tip: rooms looking to the front of the hotel

I think Autum is a very Special time of year to visit the Moray Coast and Speyside, I hope you enjoyed the rich colours, they where spectacular this year.!
Please be reassured that we are going to re fresh areas of the Inn this Winter and your constructive comments have helped shape our investment Plans.
As we have welcomed many Cyclist's this year who are attracted to either the Hills and woodland trails or the Round trips by road that can be planned, we have in turn now invested in a bike stand and a foot pump to help save space in peoples cars! I hope we can welcome you back soon.G

I would rate this hotel extremely highly. The service was fantastic. We arrived the night before an all day endurance event, and were running late - after phoning ahead, the hotel held the kitchen open for us so that we could eat before the race. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff very friendly. Highly recommended.

We arrived at the "hotel" and stayed 5mins, it reminded us of a guest house instead, on second thoughts, our last experience of a guest house was much better. Very poor standard, common areas dark and oppressive, dirty and badly in need of upgrade throughout. Stains on carpet and chair in bedroom, bath/shower badly in need of upgrade, on the whole very shabby. We have just stayed in a Premier Inn in London and a Best Western in Loch Lomond and the owners should take time to visit these chains to experience the standard of decor and cleanliness. Website gives false expectation. We are originally from Aberdeen and are quite embarrassed about the standard of this "hotel". Please do not waste your money.

My wife and I were invited to a wedding to be held at this hotel on 31st August. We thought it would be a very special treat to stay in this very special “Country” hotel in the “Highlands” for the occasion, taking these words from their website.
We had difficulty making the booking back in December, some 8 months ahead. The hotel did not respond to our enquiry for what seemed like days and then it was very unclear as to the rate due to the wedding package. We thought the rate expensive even with the discount.
The website image presented is of a country house in the Scottish Highlands. Having driven through wonderful scenery from the south we were extremely disappointed to find that that the dramatic scenery had run out by the time we reached Forres. In fact there are no Highlands to be seen from the hotel. Also we expected the country hotel to be in the country and not right next to new housing estates on the edge of Forres.
In approaching Forres from the south we missed the hotel completely because the signboard points the other way i.e. towards Forres.
The hotel is approached by a long slightly unkempt drive and the first view is not as in the pictures, but of a grotty extension that ruins the main house. The photographs are therefore somewhat deceptive.
The person who "welcomed" us was not particularly welcoming. He showed us to the room but there was no warmth, friendliness or enthusiasm. No help with our cases was offered.
The route to the room was through a dark passage and up the back stairs. There was no lift. The stair carpet was threadbare. The room was a shock - the view was over a large building site where new housing was being constructed - we had expected Scottish Highlands. The room was a standard hotel room you might find anywhere but this one was in poor condition and not with the character expected. The bathroom was OK and the bed comfortable but the décor was poor and the furniture ancient, not in keeping and in very poor condition.
You will appreciate from the above that our first impressions were those of huge disappointment.
Our stay was comfortable enough and the staff pleasant but not exceptional. The breakfasts were good and dinner good if expensive.

Room Tip: Don't accept a room on the first floor in the extension at the back - it overlooks a building si...

My wife & I spent two wonderful nights here in August. Penny made actually made our check-in a pleasant experience. We didn't have any reservations and she just made it happen. Our room was on the ground floor and opened onto the grounds. Our room was the epitome of comfort and had a bathroom that I wish I had at home. Expected a little more from dinner but, the ambiance was wonderful. Very pleasant, quiet setting, off the main road and provided a couple of relaxing nights. Close enough to get into the city/local high points very easily.

Had heard good reports of this hotel so were pleased to get a voucher for afternoon tea for two people. It exceeded all our expectations. A traditional country house hotel on the outskirts of Forres, we experienced a warm, relaxed friendly reception - offered a choice of venues to take our tea and had just relaxed into the "country house" ambience when the food arrived and our experience began! Loads of fresh sandwiches (smoked salmon and cucumber sandiwches skewered together) then toasted teacakes with butter, home-made jam and clotted cream supplied, cakes, meringues, all garnished with fresh rasps bunches of redcurrants and a pansy flower. We were given as much coffee and as much time as we required to do justice to this feast and staff were attentive but discreet. We had the car so reluctantly turned down the champagne option - though the staff did offer to arrange a taxi for us. As it was a gift we don't know about value for money, but we will be back, whatever it cost!!
