“FABULOUS IN FORRES”
Reviewed 25 September 2011

This is a lovely B & B. A grand house that is homey and welcoming along with being graced by it's owner Sarah's presence who is gracious and quite a talented cook. We could only stay one night but were shown a spacious and very prettily decorated bedroom with it's own bath and large closet. Comfy couch and chairs, tv and a tray set up for tea or coffee and the most scrumptious homemade scones you will ever taste. Sarah has another business selling these if she ever chose to diversify. Small fridge with fresh milk, and bath products and large towels in the bathroom. Really everything thoughtfully supplied. We had a picturesque view of the garden from our window. Restful, and quiet stay with a breakfast again provided by Sarah. My husband and I were marveling at the homemade jams and of course those scones! Very, very fresh and clean and we loved being greeted by her two dogs, Max and Darwin and the new kitten. Overall a great value and find.

If I had to think of the best b&b in the UK, then Sarah's Mayfield would be right up there in the top two! And that is UK wide, over years of travel! Sarah makes you feel at home. The rooms are always spotless and the supplies (towels etc) are of exceptional quality. And yet the room prices are low, which means great value for money.

I have great memories of every time we stayed at Sarah's, no matter whether at the Nethercroft cottage or at the Mayfield. In addition, Sarah often recommended great little businesses in Forres and always helped us whenever we needed.

If you are after a nice break, then this is perfect for you. Maybe have dinner at the Cluny Bank hotel and you are set for an unforgettable experience! Top notch!

The tone of your stay is set by owner, Sarah, who is gracious and makes you feel like a personal guest in her home. The room I stayed in was warm and cozy, with a huge closet, hair dryer, coffee pot, tv, free wi fi and my room had a window that overlooked the garden. Although there were several breakfast choices, I couldn't resist the yummy scones. I will definitely stay at Mayfield on my next visit to Forres.

If you were the Hotel Inspector you might say the rooms could be cleaned better, ie could see the line where the vacuum had been/had not been BUT forget all that! Mayfield is a family home with a family atmosphere that envelops you the moment you step out of your car into the beautiful garden. Sarah's welcome is very warm and friendly and if you are lucky both Max and Darwin [two superb spaniels] will welcome you too. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. The bed was so cosy it was nigh impossible to get up every morning. Plenty of hot water for showering etc. The en-suite on the small side but perfectly adequate and the walk-in wardrobe with small fridge was more than enough for our needs. The guest tea/coffee tray was always kept 'topped up' but make sure you eat the delicious home baked biscuits and cakes or take them out with you because they will be cleared away when your room is cleaned and you'll miss out!! Sarah is an exceptional cook and her cakes/biscuits are indeed a treat as is the superbly well cooked and served breakfast every morning. Sarah gives excellent advice on where to eat lunch and/or dinner and the sights one should visit whilst staying in Forres. The Kimberley at Findhorn is definitely worth a visit as is Simply Red in Forres. Our stay at Mayfield was so thoroughly enjoyable it was hard to leave. We definitely recommend Mayfield B&B and look forward to returning. Our thanks, Sarah, for a wonderful, comfortable stay.

Lovely, Lovely House and a welcome from Sarah to match. Only could stay one night, but we will arrange future travels to make sure we stay again and for longer. Everything thought of, from the homemade cake on arrival to the fridge set in a cupboard with fresh milk and a supply of Fairtrade products. Room really spacious with lovely armchairs and decor that matched the elegance of a grand 19th century house with modern facilities. Thank you so much for a lovely stay. Martin & Lin from Skye

What a delightful experience to stay at the Mayfield in Forres. The bed has to have the most comfortable mattress i have ever slept on. The room we stayed in was just perfect, superb relaxing sofa, rocking horse, great views, Sarah's lovely homemade cake was so light and moreish. We would most definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone else looking to explore the area.

This is a great place to stay in Forres. Sarah was most welcoming and friendly and could not have been more helpful. She provides a lovely breakfast and catered for all our needs - little touches make all the difference - like soya milk instead of dairy, and the herbal tea that we requested. We stayed for 4 nights and our room was spacious and very pleasant. Because the house is tucked away from the main road the room was quiet, yet it is an easy walk into the little town. Lots of good places to eat in Forres and loads to visit nearby. Altogether we were very pleasantly surprised by how much we liked our whole stay.
