This museum is great and a must for everyone in the area. It covers fishing in the past and now and famous people of Lossiemouth. Great displays and lots of albums and folders to look through. The volunteers really made our visit great - they were so friendly and knowledgeable.

On 2 levels
ground floor provides a history of the now gone fishing industry in the area showing the harbour packed with fishing vessels rather than the pleasure cruisers berthed there now plenty of things for the kids to touch and see
The 2 gents running it were retired fisherman and full of knowledge -worth asking questions!
Upstairs provides more local history including prominent nominals from the area
Again very interesting and worth a view
Worth going to see a locally run and funded trip through time
At £1.50 per adult well worth it

Considering that this is an enthusiast run site without a massive financial backing (just a recent lottery grant), they do a superb job of illustrating the historical background of the harbour, fishing industry, and local area.Despite being a modest size of establishment it houses a wealth of exhibits and information, backed up by the knowledge and friendliness of the staff.A small contribution secures entry- go and look for yourself, a worthwhile outing for all the family.

The Staff mostly retired fishermen are so knowledgable and treat all their visitors with care and make them feel special. Good value for £1 - rain or shine.

Totally entranced by this place set right on the harbour at Lossiemouth. Key here is its run and staffed by locals- ruddy faced retired fisherman who swell with pride in their knitted jumpers as you compliment them on their unique, and definitly quirky museum. So its not in the least bit stuffy, its fascinating and situated in a perfect location with the sea out front and a howling gale blowing- one can only imagine the trials and tribulations these men went through to bring in their 'catch'. Theres also a marvellous series of hand built mini fishing boats on display -again created by a now reired herring fisherman. Photographs, equipment, audio guides, parts of a fishing boat, notes, logs, and even a small case which when opened showed the away at sea gear a local would bring on board- hand knitted long johns etc - the man at the desk also told me that neither he nor any of his fellow crew members could swim - when I asked why ? his answer - well where would we swim to?????? Brave souls facing the wild north sea and its a place well worth visiting even just to talk to these super guys and to find out the true cost of getting that piece of haddock onto your plate.
