I booked this hotel for two blocks of 3 days, as I was taking part in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with my dog.
The first room did not have a functioning lock.
The ground floor room I was given the next day was damp, to the extent that my socks were damp when I walked across the carpet without shoes. The carpet was filthy, and stained in places. The internet connection was very unreliable, the flushing mechanism on the toilet was broken, the hair drier didn't work. There was food left in a drawer from a previous occupant. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall, and the curtains came off the track when I attempted to close them. The worst aspect was the bed. It was damp to the point of being clammy. The duvet underneath the cover was stained and filthy, and there was a blood stain on the mattress.
As I had my Scottie with me I was told that I could use the fire exit next to the room for ease of reaching the garden. To do this I had to climb over a law mower and other assorted rubbish.
Outside was dank and depressing. The grass required cutting, there was rubbish lying around, and all the picnic tables were covered in mould. The waterfall would have been an attractive feature had it not have been for the rubbish in the water!
Breakfast was disappointing. I'm a vegetarian and was provided with two fried eggs and two slices of white bread toasted, though there was cereal available.
I was so unhappy there - even my dog hated it, that I left after the first 3 days, and decided to go home and commute from home 90 miles away, for the last of my rehearsals and the performance itself.
My Visa card was debited for the full 6 days of my stay before I arrived. I have been in touch with Visa with a view to a refund.
I have stayed in many budget hotels in Britain and Europe, but never one as desperate as this.
There was nothing whatsoever to recommend this hotel.
My daughter had looked at some of the reviews before I arrived, and noticing some comments regarding broken locks on the doors, contacted Andy, the proprietor, to seek assurance that my room would be safe, and was assured in advance that this would be the case. Not so!
