Lovely rural location, very nice rooms, well appointed. Delicious meals - and welcoming hosts - Jim and Denise are generous hosts and make your stay special. A glass or two shared in the little conservatory most memorable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front for the best views - our room at the back very nice but a field and a w...

Castlehill enjoys a quiet elevated position with fine views over the coast. The accommodation is immaculately clean and furnished to a high standard. Fine locally sourced food and home baking. As others have said what makes Castlehill exceptional is Jim and Denise. It felt like living with good friends for a few days. Their welcome is warm and genuine, and they were very helpful. Don't expect a passive stay - expect to be engaged in conversation and to enjoy good company and humour.

There are great ever changing views over to Rousay, a quiet situation, and great facilities,, but what made this so special was the hospitality offered by Jim and Denise, they gave us the run of the house, the use of their extensive library on all things Orcadian, advice and help on what to do, delicious food and great company. To Jim and Denise I raise my glass of Scapa Malt and say thank you.

Room Tip: best views from front rooms overlooking the the sound.

We were made to feel very welcome by Jim & appreciated his help with local knowledge & the map & book he gave us when we went out travelling in the car.Sorry we didn't get to meet Denise.A very good place for R & R with full use of the spa & sauna. Lovely vistas, comfortable bed, excellent food & a wide selection of beverages.

In the last decade my wife and I have been mosr fortunate to travel abroad every year, and we have stayed in many fine B&Bs in Europe, North America and Asia, and none has been ebtter than Castlehill. The Hosts are as infectiously enthusiastic for what they do and how they do it as any we have encountered. It is truly like visiting family, if your family happens to include gourmet chefs and bakers, and the view from the homestead is one of breathtaking seas and landscapes nestled against a wildlife refuge. Close to Orkneys rich trove of Neolithic and other ancient sites, but as perfectly situated for peace and quite as might be imagined. Castlehill is a rare and perfect combination of relaxation and discovery. Jim and DEnise do this as well as anyone, and are just endearing and engaging folks. Try everything they offer you to eat as each will be a treat of rare culinary prowess.

Our second visit to Castlehill was once again very enjoyable. We were extremely well looked after and all meals were outstanding. As Peter F comments, the smoked haddock and poached eggs are a must. Jim and Denise are terrific hosts so welcoming.Evening meals with other guests and family were very enjoyable. We look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have a fantastic outlook
