“Great place to relax”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

My wife and I recently visited Orkney and were so delighted with our visit we felt we needed to share our experiences . Top of the list was the Orkney Brewery, the beer was good and the food in the tasting hall excellent, top quality products all round. However the reason we returned again and again during our stay was the friendly and welcoming environment created by the manager Anne and her young team. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they remembered us each time we returned and by the end of our stay in Orkney we felt we had made new friends! We travel all over the world and this quality of welcome is very rare. Thank you, we will return and will tell all our friends!

“Interesting tour”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

We visited this micro brewery on a recent trip to Orkney. The staff are very friendly and clearly love working in this old school, now brewery in the heart of the beautiful Orcadian countryside. The wee tasting session at the end certainly encouraged us to buy some bottles of the lovely stuff to take home! Special thanks to John who took us round the place and explained how it all works.

“The Ale is worth travelling for”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

This micro-brewery is a great find. It is a little out of the way and at the top of a hill, it is an oasis in the wilderness that is hard to beat. The Staff are very friendly and knowledgable about the brewery and the beers produced here. The Tasting Hall is so named that one can buy one-third pints of any three of the six pumps on the go. The glasses of beer are dropped into a bat with there holes in it and you can then carry your three kinds of ale to a a table of your choice. I came here a couple of times while I was in the area and it was an enjoyable time on each visit.

“Friendly atmosphere”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

We were told about this place by friends who had stayed at the cottages close by who said they kept going back to eat as the food was so good. We loved the quality of the ingredients. The manager explained that all the meat was bought and reared locally. I had the ham salad and it was probably the best ham I have ever tasted! My wife had the quiche which was also delicious. What we also enjoyed was the atmosphere in the cafe which is beautifully furnished with stone floors and wood panelling. The best bit was the fact that the staff took the time to speak to us, the young waiting staff were polite and very attentive. My wife admired the Manager's skirt and was given the address of the local shop in Kirkwall where she bought a similar one! She also gave her the chef's recipe for toffee shortcake which we will certainly try when we get home! This is exactly why we keep coming back to Orkney for our holidays.

“Great customer service! Thanks so much”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

We visited the Orkney Brewery on a misty warm day and didn't know about it before we arrived. We had been at Skara Brae and just found this little gem less than a mile away. We were not too interested in the beer as we are not beer drinkers but we found the service from the staff on duty excellent and really informative. Although it was quite busy the lady in the shop, Ann I think, took the time to welcome us and to explain what the place had to offer. We said we only wanted a coffee and were told that was just fine. What really made the visit special was the local information she shared with us, we were told where to find puffins and also about the brewery connection with the corncrake appeal- very interesting and inspiring, so great to have a commercial business interested in preserving wildlife! Although we did not taste the beer the coffee was brilliant! Thanks for making us feel very welcome in your beautiful island.
