A warm welcome. Beautiful beach on this lovely island.
As an Orcadian I can say the cooking level is exceptional. Our fish dish was up there with the Foveran, Creel and Skerries.
Worth going to Sanday just to eat there.

Another amazing return trip to Backaskaill. Geoff up to his usual creativeness with the food. The seafood medley (with extra scallops) and the massive lobster caught just out of the bay were 2 memorable evening meals. You certainly need to go walking, play golf or go and help the archaeologists with their digs on the island to work up an appetite between breakfast and evening meals!
Thanks again Jane & Geoff for a great stay!

we have stayed in a number of B & B's over the years in Scotland. This simply was the best that we've stayed in, for the warmth of the welcome, amazing food and value. I was a bit sceptical about some of the reviews about this place on Trip Advisor before we came... thinking they were a bit 'over the top' but having stayed there for 3 nights we would endorse every comment made by the previous contributors.

Our only 'negative comment' is that it is a right pity that, as residents of the south coast in England, we can't just pop by for an evening meal or a short weekend away up in Backaskaill!

I stayed for two night on a self-guided birdwatching holiday.Jane and Geoff are great hosts, and nothing is too much to ask. Good food, and plenty of it. Comfortable room. Good value too. I'd stay again for sure - and Sanday was a delight too.

Impressed is an understatement! Amazing location, amazing food and amazing hosts. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was first class. I'm a hard person to impress when it comes to restaurants, but Backaskaill Farmhouse is up there with one of my favorites.
My bed was very comfortable, fresh and warm. The bathroom was spotless.
A big bonus was the guest lounge. It's very comfortable, with an impressive TV, everything you need after a long day of fresh Sanday air.
For a one nights stay or a two week holiday, I would highly recommend Backaskaill Farmhouse B & B.

Stayed here for 7 nights on our first visit to Sanday, we arrived off the Ferry a couple of miles away. We found the B&B easily. On arrival we were welcomed by a warm house, friendly owners and a homemade hot meal (just what we needed after 10 hours of travelling). The owners are most welcoming and made us feel at home. Our room was lovely, warm, spacious and comfortable with a fantastic view from the window. We even had the opportunity to see the Northern Lights one night. We ate at the B&B restaurant every night as they had a menu with many selections of starters, main course and desserts, plus the food was very good, especially after an active day on the island – we recommend Geoff’s veggie surprise!. Although we forgot all about watching the television they have a lovely visitors lounge to relax in after a busy day. If you’re coming to Sanday for holiday or business and looking for somewhere to stay, Backaskaill Farmhouse is fantastic place to stay, with its own beech that has crystal clear water and white sands, 1st class food and hospitality. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
