We were staying in our caravan on the Orkney Mainland but wanted to visit Westray and also do the short plane trip to Papa Westray so left the 'van behind behind and drove up to Pierowall and stopped at the Pierowall Hotel for one night. We were greated with a warm welcome and had a great room overlooking the harbour and settled into a very nice meal that evening after which we went Puffin watching at Stanger Head. We also went up to Noup Head with the lighthouse, sheer cliffs and a seal collony. Stunning!. A great breakfast in the morning helped make up for the fog which cancelled our 90 second flight to Papa Westray. Weather eh!! Great hotel and thoroughly recommend.

We had planned to arrive in the afternoon - after a hike around the cliffs. But the weather was very cold and snowy - so we went straight from the ferry to the hotel - turning up at 9 in the morning. although our rooms were not ready, we were welcomed in, given a warm cup of tea - and biscuits - and were allowed to sit in the heated lounge until our room was ready – wonderful!

We had a en-suite room, but it was rather small for all four of us, although the children enjoyed their little beds, and it was ok for two nights. The room were clean and nice – and would be nice and spacious for two!

It’s a really good place to come with the family – there is a children’s play area and the children (and us!) were made to feel very welcome at all times!

We will certainly return the next time we go to Westray!

Room Tip: Maybe with two children (6 and 9) it would be better to take two rooms - unless you don't mind h...

Sunny outside Sunny inside
After a walk in the sunshine we were ravenous and there was Pierowall Hotel beckoning!
No one was about but a foray into the rear quarters found two folks in the warm kitchen...Any hope of a coffee?
Well what a welcome ...Of course just go and sit in the lounge and we will bring them through...scones?....ooh yes was our reply
We settled ourselves in comfy sofas with loads of topical and relevant literature Magazines and brochures till the Cafetiere and scones arrived accompanied by Westray pottery mugs.....delicious
If you ever get a chance to go the Queen of the NorthIsles call along the Pierowall Hotel...mind you I will be reviewing 2 other ones here too!!!!!!!

We stayed for one night and were warmly welcomed on arrival by owner and staff and shown to a very nicely decorated and comfortable en-suite room. We then had dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent, as well as the service. Very comfortable lounge bar next to the restaurant for after dinner drinks. Good nights sleep followed by a very tasty breakfast. We found the owner very friendly and took time to talk to us when we asked various questions about the island. Would definitely go back and would recommend the Pierowall Hotel to anyone wanting to visit this relaxing island.

I ate here a couple of times when staying in Pierowall. It's a lovely place with a nice & comfy lounge, nice dinning room and a short menu which items changing every day. I had an excellent fish pie, the best I've ever tasted. It can get quiet busy so sometimes it's best to book. Staff are very friendly and efficient.

we stayed one night and also had a lovely breakfast and evening meal here serving in the evening between 6-9 after a days walking down the west coast. The rooms were clean and comfortable and we were warmly welcomed from the staff and owner of the hotel. I would recommend the hotel to my friends and family as a centre point of pierowal and great hotel to explore the island of Westray from.

We ate here a couple of times, and visited for a drink or two.
The beer garden allows you to sit in the sunshine and watch the world go slowly by.
The food was excellent, with plenty of fresh fish, and staff prepared to put up with a messy two year old, including plenty of toys.
The decor was a bit 'beige'. It may have felt cosy in winter, but in summer, you did feel a little 'stuck inside' for a feed
I'd definitely go back if we visit Westray again (which i'm sure we will)
