Donald's Cottage is located 1 mile from Aberfeldy. You overlook the town from the front door as you gaze down the valley. Such lovely relaxing views you have a definite sense of rising above the valley floor. Based on a working farm you feel very private within the cottage and it's lovely to look out and see sheep grazing and lovely hills, mountains and fields. A definite break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Aberfeldy is a quaint little town with a great park for children and the gem being the Birks of Aberfeldy which can be accessed from the main street or further up hill at a designated car park. The community cinema also offered a wet day activity option. The local COOP provides pretty much everything and has good opening hours. Some lovely gift shops too. The nearby Highland Safari base at Dull is worth a visit enabling you to see Red Deer up close and Safari options which are worth googling. The gift shop there is also fantastic for kids in our opinion.
Kenmore is a personal family favourite, again with great views, shopping and eating out. There is also a play park through the Taymouth archway with a flying fox which offers good fun. Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre is around 50 mins away over the hill to Comrie which is well worth the drive due to scenery.
The cottage is well equipped and has an extremely good heating system and comfortable beds. It was a pleasure to return here after a busy day and immediately settle in. If you have children who wish to be WiFi connected on a regular basis, they will have to have it on their mobile phone as there is no hub in the house. We actually enjoyed this factor as it meant we talked more, read more and generally made more eye to eye contact! :D
A fantastic base and a definite 'family run feel' The added bonus is you are right next door to the Spirit of Wood showroom which sells fantastic wood furniture and other gifts. A lovely place to spend some money and time. Also at the bottom of the hill is a whisky Distillery offering educational tours. We also enjoyed watching the canoeing and rafting along the road at Grandtully. The River Tay is just beautiful.
On reading the visitors comments from previous years it becomes apparent that many have returned time and time again which speaks for itself. We will certainly be back and we have missed it ever since leaving.
We have stayed in this lovely cottage in Aberfeldy twice. The location is very central for both beautiful countryside and shops. Couldn't fault anything about the cottage, it was cosy, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The owners are always helpful and friendly and we hope to come back very soon!!
