Owner description: Beautiful golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Reviewed 25 March 2014

Four of us took advantage of the spring offer to stay in the hotel and play golf. The courses are splendid, although it was too early in the year to see them at their best. Greens had been recently repaired and treated and thus played poorly. This did not detract too much from enjoying the impressive design and stunning scenery all around as we played the Kings and Queens courses.
We had electric trolleys supplied by the club and they were very erratic, cutting out up to a dozen times during the round. This is not good enough for such a venue. Surely all equipment should have been checked over and returned to tip top condition for the start of the season.
The hotel is a very special place to stay, and we enjoyed the luxury of the rooms and the spa pool and facilities. We dined in the Strathearn restaurant, and it seems clear that the prices reflect the surroundings, the ambiance and the service rather than the quality of the food. It was good but not enough to justify the cost.

All the courses are exceptional. In the case of PGA exceptionally tough! Especially for an occasional golfer. However, whilst some courses are for those who are really hooked on golf. Those at Gleneagles are for those who enjoy being in the great outdoors. The Belfry is a great course but the sound of the motorways is always in the ears. At Gleneagles that is not the case. The sight of wildlife is ever present although was somewhat annoyed when a deer was in my line and yet had obviously seen my golf on a previous occasion and decided it was the safest place to be and stayed put. It was right as I sliced it again!

At the 10th tee pick up the phone there and order what you need for a break at the Halway House next to the 10th green of the Kings/Queens.

Whatever the weather, sensational - the experience not my golf.

Played some of these courses in January and found them to be excellent but more impressive is the Scottish view at every hole. I spent more time taking photos than concentrating on the golf which is usually less impressive anyway

Pay a visit to this golf course with its huge hotel when you are in the neighborhood. It is home of the Ryder Cup 2014. Look at the course with its difficult bunkers and pay a visit to the golf shop to buy some Ryder Cup souveniers.
