My friends and I went for a birthday celebration for afternoon tea. The booking process over the phone a few weeks before was frustrating as I was cut off twice by switchboard before getting through to someone.

After that things improved and from our arrival we were in for a treat. We had the "Classic Afternoon Tea" which included unlimited tea and coffee and we were offered refills throughout the afternoon. We were not hurried at all and were served in the bar which is a very peaceful, comfortable environment. This meant we spent 4 hours enjoying our food at a leisurely pace and given the quantity provided we needed this.

The food was served on traditional 3 tier cake stands and for 4 of us we got 2 of these stands crammed with food!! As well as this got 3 mini scones each (you will be glad to know they offfered to what we didn't eat in a box to take home). Savoury delights included sausage rolls; quiche; choux buns with crowdie cheese; smoked salmon blinis; and four flavours of deliciously fresh finger sandwiches. Min patisserie included strawberry tarts and chocolate eclairs to name just a few!

Overall the service, food and ambience was outstanding and worth ever penny. Well worth it for a celebration or special treat. It is popular though so booking would be recommended.

We travelled as a family of 6 adults and we all absolutely loved this hotel. We had done quite a bit of driving all throughout Scotland in the week leading up to our time at Gleneagles and we were ready to simply relax for a few days upon arrival. It was wonderful. We relaxed at the terrific spa, enjoyed breakfast in bed, we dined in great restaurants (the number of restaurants on-site and choice was fabulous) and we also enjoyed many of the fun activities the hotel had to offer (golf, fly fishing and archery). The service was top notch everywhere, the activities were great and well organized, and we don't have a bad thing to say about the hotel. We would recommend this hotel to anyone - just great. (Though do see my tip below about making sure to confirm that you have a room with A/C, since not all had been upgraded yet to include A/C).

Room Tip: Be careful - not all rooms have been upgraded to include an air conditioner. My parents were origin...

I have just returned from 3 days staying in the Glenmore village. Staying as a large group of close family, we were able to enjoy the wonderful facilities of the hotel. The pool area and spa were fabulous and the friendly yet professional staff ensure that you have an enjoyable time.
The houses in Glenmore are immaculate ,beautifully finished ,feel luxurious and allow for some self catering and freedom.
We ate at the Strathern restaurant which was as good as ever and enjoyed pre dinner cocktails in the bar before hand. The Bloody Mary's are very spicy and I have never had a better one anywhere .
Lunch in the Dormy house was welcome after a quick 9 on the pitch and put. All in all a lovely break. It is worth mentioning that although Gleneagles can seem expensive , the pool area, pitch and put and the glorious walks and scenery are free! Enjoy!

My Father and I stayed in room 264 on the 18/08/14 only for the one night following a round of golf on the PGA Centenary course as part of his 60th Birthday celebrations. This is the first time either of us have visited Gleneagles - it will not be the last. Upon arrival we made our way to the hotel lobby to check-in and were welcomely greeted by the ladies attending reception, to my surprise they were already aware we were staying as part of my Fathers 60th (I assume this info was provided to them as part of my telephone booking a few days prior) a nice touch as I didn't request any special fuss for my Dad. We checked-in to our room which overlooked the front entrance of the hotel and estate, the room was extremely clean and all expected amenities were provided (a good quality steam iron and ironing board is always on my list if must haves in a room). The hotel had left a hand written Birthday card together with a small bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label Whiskey and a Gleneagles engraved Whiskey glass - a very nice touch very well received by my Father and again not requested by me, this shows the sheer class of the staff and Hotel. We ate at the Dormy restaurant in the evening again the waitress and waiters were very attentive as you would expect even though the restaurant was fairly busy the ambience was relaxed and the food very well presented and both the haggis starter (obvious choice when in Scotland) and the steak with bone marrow and red wine jus were excellent. After a nice bottle of Fleurie and a couple of Whiskeys washed done with an espresso we were off back to the room for a night cap and early night. Our round of golf on the PGA course was made extra special as the Ruder Cup infrastructure is being constructed around the course, minor distractions aside (to be expected while such work is being undertaken - and we were fully aware of this ahead of the booking) the golf experience was simply stunning. The turf underfoot was soft, well drained and true, the greens pretty quick and the undulations made putting difficult that said we both played reasonably well shooting a score a piece in the low 80's. The round was pretty quick, members were accommodating to us as obvious visitors and allowed us to play through - eventually. The Pro Shop staff were again very welcoming and attentive and even engraved a Gleneagles ball marker with 'Happy 60th Dad' when requested by me more out of a curious request - again a very nice touch and my Father was bowled over by this little touch. The golf staff attending to the golf Carts were very friendly openly offering advice and guidance as to how to play the infamous PGA course ahead of our tee time. Overall, the experience was made very special for me and my Dad and it has given us both special memories to treasure for a lifetime, neither of us can thank the whole Gleneagles staff enough as every single individual we encountered were friendly, helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. A wonderful hotel and golf course and wonderful staff made an amazing experience. Thank-you Gleneagles we will be back.

Bucket list trip to the home of golf and chance to play the Ryder Cup course 2014 exceeded expectations. Trip started on down note as US Airways missed placed 20 different pieces of luggage including 9 sets golf clubs. The resort went out of their way to help, giving us discounted golf rentals, free golf shoes and balls so we could still play while waiting for our luggage to arrive. Then even sent their own vehicle to Glasgow airport to retrieve our bags. Accommodations were terrific and the staff was awesome. If you go to Scotland you should make Gleneagles part of your itinerary. You won't be disappointed.

I thought I would comment at this stage on a situation that arose soon after checking into the hotel.

We wanted a drink and a sandwich after a long journey and naturally went to the main bar. The entrance to the bar had been blocked from the inside by wine coolers which forced us to use its other entrance. This was 'patrolled' by a member of staff. When I said that the three if us would like to order drinks and a sandwich we were told that the only place we could sit was on bar stools - all tables and easy chairs were allocated for 'tea'.

So we sat on high bar stools and had (excellent) sandwiches and a drink. Tables still uncleared from those who must have had 'tea' at about 1.30pm were evident - and other tables were free where we could have sat more comfortably.

On returning to the bar for a pre-dinner cocktail at just after 7pm, the main door had been unblocked and tables were available. I was surprised that at 7.15pm, tables containing creamy tea plates and
The odd cake on a tiered 'tower' were still 'gracing' the bar's tables.

I thought that 'tea' was taken around 4pm - not at lunchtime until dinner? Why does it take Gleneagles Bar largely out of action while underway?

The management should consider relocating the 'tea phenomenon' to another part of the hotel e.g. some kind of 'Palm Court' arrangement and revert the bar to its principal function.

To be told that after travelling hundreds of miles you couldn't sit in a comfy chair to eat a sandwich was a bit disappointing in a supposedly 5 star establishment!

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to share your comments following your recent experience at Gleneagles. Having read your feedback it is of course very concerning to us that the described scenario in the bar has negatively overshadowed your stay.
The bar is accessible via the main entrance all day while the door to the Lobby is only opened in the evening. We accept bookings for afternoon tea from 12pm with last seatings at around 5pm. Most days we are fully booked with many guests indulging into to experience for well over two hours. Although this probably explains why the hostess was unable to accommodate you without prior reservation, the fact that some tables had still not been occupied by the time you finished your meal, does indicate that the situation could have been handles more vigilantly. For this as well as the fact that some tables had not immediately been cleared, I can only humbly apologise on behalf of the bar team.
Due to the popularity of the bar throughout the afternoon we offer alternatives such as Deseo restaurant, Braids coffee shop as well as the Dormy Clubhouse for light snacks or full meals all day.
Thank for allowing us to comment and we hope to welcome you back to Gleneagles in the future.

Best Regards,

Andreas Porias
