We were celebrating a 40th birthday - eight adults and two children had a weekend in the hotel. Very impressed. Although the hotel was very busy excellent standards were maintained. We had a lovely meal in the Brasserie one night and the next night were in the main restaurant. Food great and all the staff were efficient, helpful and very friendly. We thought our package for dinner, bed and breakfast was very good value and those of us in single rooms thought the price was particularly good. So often people on their own are charged extortionate amounts.

it's not easy planning a break to suit 10 people, TishGlasgow_Scotland, so we're thrilled that your 40th Birthday celebration stay was so enjoyable. Hearing that it also represented great value for money was just the icing on the Birthday cake! Come back to see us soon please.

We stayed for four nights and five days - family of 5 with kids under the age of 9 in a self catering lodge #820 (Straloch).

On arrival at reception around 3pm we received a warm welcome. Our lodge was ready and we had two allocated parking spaces right outside our door which is a real plus. No need to park further out and this was convenient while still safe.
We entered the lodge which was modern, clean and impressive with a nice big hallway which opened into a large open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen on one side, and a utility area / downstairs toilet on the other side. Another real plus was having our washing machine and tumble dryer, especially when staying for a few days. They even provided laundry tablets.

The kitchen had all required amenities of a good standard such as utensils, crockery, dishwasher, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, oven gloves, kitchen napkins and tissue, toaster, kettle and another plus - complimentary tea, coffee and sugar.

The bedrooms were spacious and the L-shaped bedroom with alcove area for kids' beds is a clever addition which meant we did not need a three bedroom lodge. Both bedrooms were en suite. Bathrooms were fresh and of a high standard. While there, we asked to view their hotel suites in case we decided to opt for different accommodation next time. We were very pleased we'd chosen the lodge over the hotel rooms.

Activities were varied and very good. I'd recommend Segways. We did that twice. The second time, the instructor felt we were ready to venture further out and he took us to a peak with the most amazing views. There is a well equipped gym, although I think it would be worth the hotel investing in a separate room for the gym classes as the weights area had been restricted due to a class in there.

We only tried one restaurant - Piccolo, which was below average unfortunately. We did grocery shopping at the Co-op which is a four minute drive from the hotel and it was well stocked and had everything we needed. We cooked all our own meals in our own time.

The Famous Grouse is well worth a visit. It was a fifteen minute walk from our lodge and the whisky/chocolates are reasonably priced. They do a tour also.

I wouldn't advise using bikes if you have young children as the terrain is too challenging for them.

Big Country is great and included in the cost - another big plus, although our kids preferred the other activities especially swimming, horse riding and the quad bikes / quad pods.

The kids loved the magician on one of the evenings. He was funny.

The biggest plus for us was the staff. They made this holiday stand out the most for us. They must have done this a thousand times yet they still appeared genuinely interested in making us feel individually welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. A social mention to the 4x4 and Segways instructors and the outdoor activity reception staff.

Also we requested a lodge clean and replenished linens halfway through our stay and this was done promptly with no quibbles.

All in all, it's not easy to find a similar holiday in the UK with "all" the aforementioned pluses. We've tried. For this reason, we will be returning. Fabulous.

We stayed at the Hydro for a weekend in April in the Executive studio apartments which are just opposite the main hotel . The studio was really clean , modern , with lovely decor and nice and spacious . Overall I liked it. However , i felt that the rather expensive price didnt really justify and so here's a few reasons why we felt a bit let down. Our boys slept downstairs ( the living area converted at night time ) however there were no black out blinds so the bright night light outside shone through the slats making the room far too light. We used blankets to try and block out some of the light and it helped a bit. Our bed in the main bedroom was two singles joined together and the gap made it really uncomfortable . We didn't watch much tele but one disappointment was that there was no sky just freeview which needed resetting often , not sure why ? lastly there were no robes which I would have expected .
The hotel is lovely inside and the staff are helpful and can't do enough for you . I did find some of the girls at reception could have been a bit friendlier and less 'scripted' ... Like when we checked in. There is lots to do and a great selection of activities to suit all ages .
We had a package deal for dinner bed and breakfast . First night we ate at the new Piccolo restaurant , the staff were so lovely , esp a girl with short blond hair. And the food was delicious, esp hot smokd salmon salad ! On the sat night we are the Brasserie and we wished we hadn't bothered . Ridiculously overpriced and the food was terrible ! We had duck salad for starters , tasteless and bland . I had chicken and potatoes for main , all of it was over cooked and nothing special at all, esp for £16!! My husband had the fish and chips , pretty tasteless too and the chips were pale and hardly cooked . My sons meat balls looked cheap and tasteless too, he never ate it . Definitely don't eat there . It's a rip off .
Overall we had a fairly good stay but due to the prices , and reasons above it wasn't too special .

Oh, rachglasgow we're so sorry that the issues you've highlighted marred your stay. We don't recall you bringing these to our attention at the time. It's a real shame if this is the case, as we'd have moved Heaven and earth to make things right. Hope you'll give us another chance someday.

Oh my! Where do I start?? My first ever visit to Crieff hydro for the first night of our mini-moon and am still relaxed from one nights stay! We stayed in room 93 in the Leigh building with private parking space. Absolutely amazing. That room is spectacular with a stunning view over the hills, comfiest bed ever and the bath tub is to die for. You feel like a VIP.
The room was so cosy and warm and the extra touches, like little jar of sweeties just added to the whole experience. We dined in the miekle restaurant where the food was supreme as was the service and excellent wine. Buffet breakfast was the best I've ever had. We were given free passes to the Victorian spa by a lovely receptionist when we were checking in, due to the fact that we were on honeymoon, which we really appreciated. It is so nice to get a little freebie once in a while. The spa is fantastic, well worth the charge (even thought we didn't pay, I would have!) and again you feel like a VIP. We were sad to leave the next day, and can honestly say that the next hotel was a let down after this. We should have just stayed the week at Crieff. We have already decided where we are spending our first anniversary!!

Room Tip: Room 93 in the Leigh suite is gorgeous , plus a lovely view over the hills.

My thoughts are echoed by everyone else visiting over the recent Easter weekend. Despite the hotel being super busy, the staff coped brilliantly as ever and made us feel relaxed and pampered. Crieff Hydro improves every year as they add new activities, improve rooms and tweak any areas which need tweaking! We were in a very large family group and there is nowhere else we know that can cater for each and every one of us so well. See you next year.

Reading your fabulous review brought Morecambe & Wise to mind, MurphyandSaga and, to echo their famous words, we'd like to say "If you've enjoyed it, then it's all been worthwhile". We'll resist doing their silly walk 'though and just add that we can't wait to see you next year,

We returned to Crieff Hydro this year for Easter weekend and delighted it was a success for all 12 of our party.
The Reception staff were very pleasant and check-in swift & efficient.
We were all in the main hotel, us four in a family suite which accommodated the grown-ups in a wonderful king sized bed and our children aged 6 & 4 in their own twin room within our suite. The room itself was comfortable and had everything you could need and the bathroom nicely appointed.
Due to a miscommunication within our party we hadn't made dinner reservations prior to arrival, but the staff kindly booked a table at the sister hotel The Murraypark which is literally at the end of the drive. I did not attend the dinner as our children decided they would try Kids Club for the 1st time (which I had pre-booked from 6.30-9.30pm), quite rightly Big Country ask that parents/guardians remain on the premises. My Husband & I fortunately managed to get a cancellation for the Meikle Restaurant with the help of a very kind Gentleman working on the Brasserie desk whilst the others went to Murraypark.
There were certainly no complaints from either experience, the food was lovely and well presented.
The Children's High Tea was also very good and can safely say that there's something for everyone, fussy eaters included!
I'm often in awe of how a Hotel on this scale caters so well for the masses yet everything appears seamless and the staff remain the most polite and helpful I have encountered.
It may be on the expensive side but I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a perfect family break in Scotland, fantastic amenities, entertainment, surroundings & scenery.....you get what you pay for!
I've yet to experience the Spa and intend using it extensively on our next visit now our children have used Big Country and asked to go again the following evening, sure it wouldn't be a hardship for them to go in the afternoon session and let Mum be pampered?
Thanks again Crieff Hydro for a great family weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevators & stairways if you have light sleepers

Arranging a break for 12 people can't have been easy, MeldrumRob - so we're thrilled that the Hydro came up trumps for you all. Here's hoping that you'll be back before long, when perhaps you'll have the chance to enjoy your much longed-for Spa pampering session!
