This trip was for myself, single lady with teenage son.....been before with many other family members and very different this time. i found it is the staff in this hotel that are BRILLIANT.,so friendly ,helpful and mostly young and ambitious..... where do you find such lovely staff?
i had a busy time here with swimming, best quiet time 7am.and able to sort of play grand piano in Meikle bar early morning. going for breakfast alone is hard but all staff friendly though very busy. we mostly had delicious panninis in the HUB and even a take away pizza from Piccolo restaurant.this suited my son and myself...
my teenager did go to cinema on his own. Also sometimes for breakfast ,alst minute 9.55am ,ps teenagers dont wish to really get up so early.but as we had paid for breakfast he did...slept in one day and i was able to get some fruit for him....... however it was too doubting for him to go alone to any activities .best if there is other family members around....so played on DS ...but okay....( as we I have a Mum in local care home we did go down there quite a lot) Also as Crieff is such a lovely friendly town and even teenager was fine to walk around it and get bus to Stirling!!!!
There is a lovely affable and amiable atmosphere at the Hydro which i loved,I am sure my larger family will be up here again....and teenager will find lots to do then.
Thanks to all the team at the Hydro as it is all the staff here that make this hotel special.
PS There is a saying “If you find the perfect hotel beware of it ..... because you will still find fault in it. ..” so come to an Hotel that is always willing to improve and take note of what customers say.........

Room Tip: Phone accommodation as get good deals, not known on line. I have always liked rooms on ground floor...

There was much to enjoy about your wonderful review, elliem123. The title alone made for lots of happy campers amongst the team - thanks! I often say "even a bad day at the Hydro is better than a good day working anywhere else", so it's brilliant that our staff camaraderie is so evident. Please hurry back!

We had booked Murray Park Hotel but were re-located to Crieff Hydro, because Murray Park was overbooked. Crieff Hydro offers loads of activities form ping-pong to Quad bikes. Even a cinema. Consequently it was very busy with families and I can see why, Kids will not get bored and there is something for the parents, too. The breakfast in the morning felt more like a canteen than a restaurant, quality of food was ok. Our room was tiny (room 121), but bath / shower was ok, and because we only stayed one night I did not mind. Over all the hotel needs updating and unless you want to take advantage of all the activities on offer, I would not recommend it.

We all felt a bit glum after reading your review, claudiamP5195WD. On reflection, the Murraypark Hotel might have been more to your liking. Sorry. Let's just hope you'll give us another chance the next time you visit Scotland, when we'll do everything possible to guarantee you have a lovely stay.

My wife and I booked an executive room for our 2 night stay. On arrival we were sent across the street to a flat in another building. The room was indeed of an excellent standard but as we would have had to walk across to the main hotel in the rain as it happened ,I asked for another room within the actual hotel itself.. We were allocated room 105 which was of a standard I would equate with any other half decent hotel (not executive class in my opinion) not nearly as plush as the room in the other building. We took it however as it was in the hotel itself.
On the plus side The expansive grounds were excellent with lots of lovely woodland walks to explore.
As it was summer.obviously the hotel was understandably full of families with children, and they were very well catered for,but it was not really the place to be for an older couple on a break. The pool and spa were understandably busy with kids most of the time, but if you wanted to escape and use the adults only Victorian Spa pool you had the privilege of doing so for forking out £20.00 ponds per couple per day. At night the mail ballroom was generally filled with children running around so we went to what was described as a "Piano Bar". This turned out to be a rather cramped lounge with a tiny bar. There was a piano in the corner but nobody played it for the 2 nights we sat there.
We were there on a bed & breakfast basis and once again to be positive the breakfast was excellent with efficient friendly staff in attention, as were all the staff in the hotel.
Overall I would say that our stay was not unpleasant, but that in my opinion a stay in the Crieff Hydro is over rated and vastly overpriced compared to other hotels we have stayed in.

What a shame our finest Signature Room in the Leigh Building didn't suit, TERRY D. We thought you'd enjoy the luxury, tranquillity and spectacular views these rooms afford. As you say, the Hydro's bound to be busy with kids during school holidays. We hope to tempt you back at a quieter time.

Booked this as a 4 night treat for family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids - 15 and 10). Generally had a great time as activities great for all. Food in Meikle was fantastic and waist expanding. Kids menu became boring for our 10 year old by the 3rd night of our stayas it is invariant.

Some things in hotel need care and attention. Rooms are nice but our bathroom raditor was stuck on full when we arrived, with no means on radiator to regulate it, which meant we arrived to a 'sauna'. After 2 hours of struggles by us and maintenace team finally managed to turn it off and provide us with fans to help cool room down to acceptable temp. Room floorboards really creeked which was annoying at night time. Hallways in hotel were a bit tardy, with dents and marks on walls and grubby carpets.

Room Tip: Book by phone and ask to get room with view rather than overlooking flat roofs. Also, if stay for a...

It was kind of you to give us such a high score, considering we tripped ourselves up a wee bit during your stay, Rade D. Sorry. We're glad you had a great time overall 'though and only hope you'll return soon for another 'waist expanding' stay, when we'll find you a 'room with a view'.

Well I was really looking forward to this stay as my husband had stayed here 4 years ago and had been singing your praises.
Upon arrival we received our room key rather rushed by the girl and went to our room 121. I'm still wondering where the rest of the room was. It was very small and I couldn't get our suitcase over to the wardrobe because of the limited space. I had expected a large bed but not two beds pushed together which made it uncomfortable to be in the middle.
We ate in the piccolo the first night and it was delicious when we returned upstairs to sit in the bar we found it hard to find a seat and somewhere away from children. We ended up in the drawing room almost in peace and quiet.
On the first morning i wasn't expecting to have to wait to get my breakfast but it was very nice, however on the 2nd morning after getting a table straight away a bit too close to children it took forever to get our tea and toast which several other tables were waiting for too.

We didn't realise until the 2nd night that we could get an information sheet to tell use about events, it would've been nice to be informed of this at reception.

Now the Spa - really disappointed after spending £7 each about the facilities, i had a bed which was almost in the pool it was so close and the pool could do with being cleaned. The next day we just went in to the pool upstairs which was very nice. Surely we shouldn't have to pay £14 for such poor facilities so that we can avoid children.

I did love the entrance to the hotel and some lovely food. loved scottish dancing and ceili. Lots of activities

Lifts - very slow and too small.

very overpriced for size of room and spa facilities that we have to pay extra for

Disappointed as I lie here in a different hotel with over twice the space at a quarter of the price - so much more worth it.

We read your review with a heavy heart, Jennifer F. It's not clear if you requested another bedroom, or if you spoke to our Duty Host at any point? In any event, this was clearly not our finest hour. Sorry. If we can persuade you to return, please remind us of this when you book and we'll find a way to make amends.

We visited for a one night stay to celebrate our anniversary, with our 9mo in tow. We booked due to the hotel's reputation for luxurious family friendly acccomodation.

Staff were polite but not particularly welcoming. The numerous staff members who passed us while we were looking at a map trying to work out how to get to the soft play ignored us. Those who served us in the Meikle restaurant for dinner were excellent but standard had slipped by breakfast and it took a long time to serve toast, tea and coffee. A particularly unpleasant and surly girl was serving in the Hub when we went to buy ice cream, couldn't even be bothered to be polite.

Most disappointing was our room. The decor was tired and the carpet faded. The floor was uneven which is to be expected in an old building but it did feel like we were on a boat when trying to cross the room. We were also caught unawares several times when leaving the bathroom due to a large dip in the floor just outside the door. The bed was 2 singles zipped together which wasn't what we were expecting and if I'd noticed before bedtime I would have asked to change rooms. TV reception was appalling, hardly any channels and a terrible picture. When someone came to look at it we were told that ours was actually pretty good for the hotel! No hot water in the shower either which required another visit by maintenance staff.

Dinner in the Meikle restaurant was excellent although the cheeses could have done with being left out of the fridge for a while before serving. Breakfast was also decent despite it being very busy.

We were told the soft play would be suitable for our son, I beg to differ. Apart from the ball pool there was nothing he could go on and he couldn't even use that as there were children jumping in and out of it. It was also in a dark and sweaty room, windows obscured by the equipment and a few plastic chairs for parents so we swiftly left. Swimming pool was lovely and warm but very busy.

Overall, it just wasn't the luxurious experience we were hoping for. Dare I say that I've had friendlier service and a better room in a Premier Inn. On completing their online questionnaire I got a standard response email so I don't think they particulary care that we didn't have a good time. At over £200 for DB&B I do expect better and certainly won't be rushing back.

Oh my goodness, HodgiesS by the sounds of it there wasn't much to celebrate during your anniversary stay. Not helped by the fact that we also missed the mark with our review response. We couldn't be sorrier and would really appreciate the chance to restore your faith in us, if you'd care to make contact.
