Somehow I expected more from the Crieff Hydro. This was my first stay. The place looks like it could do with sprucing up. The corridors have dingy carpet, and the floors seem quite rickety. My single room was comfy but quite small, and did not seem to have any heating on, which made for quite a cold night. The room was not quiet, either, I could hear the drone of machinery all night. The restaurant (The Meikle), had good food and quick service. The dinners were excellent. The breakfast buffet was OK but they seem to make their coffee quite weak and their tattie scones were too hard and leathery to eat. The Victorian Spa (£7 for a day) was great. The two night stay I had was on special offer, so it was good value, but I don't think I'd want to pay the full price.

Hotel looked great on the web site. Plenty activities for the kids. Got there and the staff were rude (except for one), the room we were shown was very shabby and drab. We went to the Brasserie for lunch and after a 25 minute wait for a sandwich, the bread the was hard. This was replaced by a different type of bread, which we were told was fresh in that day. We wondered when the other bread was delivered... The kids' macaroni they ordered was a very small portion and looked awful. It cost us over £30 for a lunch which none of us enjoyed or finished. We took a walk around the hotel and decided we could neither eat there or stay there. The carpets were filthy, the pool was like a public baths and their "spa" was nothing special and not worth paying for. We had the price of the room refunded and they offered to refund our lunch and give us free dinner, but we just couldn't wait to leave, so we did. Drove straight to the Dunblane Hydro and received a clean room, polite staff who were more than willing to make us feel comfortable, plenty things for the kids to do and most importantly, good food in clean surroundings.

we booked a self catering lodge for 2 nights for 4 people for £130, bargain!! We were not expecting much but were pleasantly suprised. The kitchen and living room were really nice with two bedrooms, 1 twin+1 bunk beds. There was a dvd player+cd player in the living room. The kitchen had all the utensils you could need + a microwave. When we were there it rained which was a shame as there was a wee balcony with seats you could have sat on and watched the world go by. Ive stayed in the hotel before and its nice as long as you get a good deal. I actually preferred the lodges it was so chilling and a really cheap break. I would suggest going to the victorian spa a day pass cost £7 and there was a nice pool, sauna, steam room + jacuzzi. A nice way to spend a couple of hours. This hotel is a 4* but I would not say its posh, there is lots of families and older people. The only complaint I had was the cinema was shut on the tuesday and there was meant to be a ceiliah on momday night and when we got there it had been cancelled and there was a guy playing the piano instead.

We stayed here for a long weekend, the facilities are excellent, the hotel is ideal for families with young children, parents can leave the kids entertained all day and can make the most of the Spa etc. I would recommend this hotel to anybody with young children. My only slight moan would be that it is not the cheapest of places to stay but the rooms were nice and clean, the hotel is spot on and the food was excellent. The girls went horse riding and enjoyed this.

This is first time ever writing review but felt so strongly to prewarn other guests. Family
rooms are not what they seem. It is a triple room with a temporary bed placed in
roomand we booked an "executive family room". The hotel thought this was acceptable. The childrens dinner time is complete chaos. The hotel
was overbooked. On two occasions waited over an hour past our allocated "slot" to
get served for dinner.Breakfast had good choice, but a warning at the breakfast room
that there will be a wait and there always was. Drinks are expensive. The rooms were
main point of contention if you are going - book a chalet as the "executive family rooms"
are too small.

We have been visting Crieff for years and make allowances for slip ups. This year we were specifically promised last year's lovely adjoining rooms, but then not given them on arrival. A really sloping bed in a really sloping room gave me a sleepless night. At 4am I went to complain and they gave us a room which was near the attic and OK but and not what what we had agreed or paid for. The fire alarm went off on Saturday night for ages messing up the dance. No rebate offered. The staff are kind, but should I go on making allowances for the management??? John B

Probably a one off but lack of hot water in ensuite for washing and showering and hot food served cold in restaurant were offputting.
