If your needs are a very comfortable hotel with wonderful views across Loch Earn, excellent food, and a friendly knowledgable host on all things Scottish, then you must stop at The Achray House Hotel.
My wife and I stayed for 3 nights on our way up to Skye. The hard working owners take a very personal hands-on approach towards all aspects of making their guests feel at home and welcome.
Our visit was a wonderful, very friendly and extremely informative introduction to Scotland. We left having had a relaxing stay in our large comfortable room with views across the lovely Loch Earn. These was matched by the same views from the restaurant whilst we were being indulged by quite exceptional, delicious and innovative food not to mention an extensive and reasonably priced wine list.
Thank you both for a very memorable and relaxing stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Dundurn Suite which had a king size comfortable bed, a small separate "snug&qu...

Six of us went for a one night stay at the weekend to experience the Taste of Scotland meal offer and walk locally. Both exceeded our expectations with 2 of our friends who hadn't been before certain to return with some of there friends. The log fire in the lounge was lovely to sit round after the meal with a glass or two of fine Port and a choice from the selection of Malt and blended whiskeys. The start of a good walk is only 500 yards away next to the four seasons hotel if you like taking advantage of some of Scotland's finest scenery.

Room Tip: As the hotel over looks the Loch, first floor rooms at the front are the best to appreciate the view...

We had an overnight her taking advantage of the taster menu. Great for a quiet stay to take in some breathtaking scenery. The owners were welcoming and knowledgeable about the food they served.
The views down the loch when having dinner were almost worth the price alone. The rooms were clean and well appointed. A couple of people working very hard to give people a taste of Scotland. Great stuff.

Room Tip: We had a loch side view which was great.

Thanks for your generous review, and for calling it a "taste of Scotland". This is absolutely what we are trying to achieve: the best of Scotland without an overload of tartan, haggis and shortbread.

We stayed for just one night, wish we could have stayed longer. The overall quality and presentation of the food was first class. The view over Loch Earn whilst enjoying our meals - stunning! Then a whiskey nightcap relaxing by the fire in the comfortable, cosy lounge. We will be back!

The view was magnificent and so also was the food. What superb value in that we thoroughly enjoyed every last morsel of the taster menu. The service was superb and the owners went totally out of their way to ensure that the whole experience in visiting the hotel simply could not be bettered. An explanation of the dishes in the taster menu was given by the joint owner and it is presumed that the "other half" did the cooking...and what a real delight this was. The couple were more than happy to talk to ourselves and to other guests and indeed represented, to our minds, everything that hosts should be. The bedrooms were immaculate and the breakfast exactly as it should be. This is the type of hotel which deserves to succeed since they really know how to bring the whole experience together. Hearty congratulations all round

Room Tip: Go to experience really great hospitality in every way

The hotel enjoys a lovely position with great views over the loch and surrounding hills. I would however suggest you request one of the upper floor rooms rather than the basement rooms. We were at the hotel for a taster menu evening which was nice enough (providing you like fish). It would have been a far more enjoyable evening had the owners smiled and had something of a personality. I am sure many will like the hotel however, if your looking for a drink after 10.45pm forget it. We felt we were an inconvenience to the owners and for that reason, won't be back. A smile costs nothing but means a lot !

Room Tip: Request an upper floor bedroom instead of the basement room which feels like an after thought.

Well you obviously didn't take to my wife or myself, or for that matter the food.

I don't understand the comment about fish. You had a six course taster menu, described in the voucher you bought as highlighting Scottish fish, shellfish and game, so that fact that one of the six courses was fish should not have been a surprise.

We don't have any basement rooms. A basement is by definition wholly or partly under ground level, and the room you are presumably referring to at at ground level. As the hotel is over three level, the rooms on higher floors do have better views.

We close the bar at 11:00 if no-one is in the bar or lounges, or later if guests are still wanting drinks.

You don't want to return which frankly suits us: rowdy ill mannered groups like yours spoil the atmosphere for other guests.

Had a lovely time and the food was lovely.

We arrived before 3.00pm and asked if we could be allowed into the room a little early. We were told that the room wasn't ready. However, there was only one other couple in the hotel that day so really, there what was the inconvenience of letting us into the room an hour earlier if the whole hotel was empty?.

Although we had a drink after dinner by the fire, I did feel that we were keeping the owners up although they were nice and certainly didn't do anything to make us leave.

Not much in the way of smiles but a lovely clean hotel.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and the food.

Obviously we would have given you access to the room if it was ready, but it was not. The number of guests in the hotel on the night you stayed is irrelevant: the hotel was full the night before and we were still in the process of cleaning the rooms from previous guests when you arrived, not a little early, but over two hours before our check in time. Despite and email asking you to let us know if you planned to arrive early, you did not let us know in advance that you would do so (in which case we could have cleaned your room first). #

Our check out time is 11:00 (which is not always adhered to). That gives us four hours to clean eight rooms. If we were to increase our staffing to enable earlier check ins for anyone who turned up early without advance notice, we would also need to increase the prices for all guests to cover the costs, and we don't want to do this.

I'm nor sure why you thought you were keeping us up. One of us is in the bar every night until at least 23:00 unless everybody has left the bar and lounges before then, in which case we lock up.

I agree with your comments on not much smiles: you never smiled once in your stay.

Regards
Alan Gibson
