“"overnight stay before holiday"”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Booked in for DB&B with my wife before an early morning flight and also for the availability of being able to leave my car for the fortnight I was away. The room was more than adequate for an overnight stay and the bed was very comfortable. The dinner was good, but we were not able to get what we had requested for breakfast. (small grumble) The use of the hotel shuttle bus to and from the airport which was free and frequent was also a positive. I would definitely use this hotel again.

Arrived on 17th July to stay for 2 nights. 2 positives are that the beds are incredibly comfy and the dinner was lovely.

However there is a lot of improvement needed. Firstly, the hotel is very dated! Needs brightened up and decor needs updated asap. The rooms are very small and there wasn't adequate space to place things in the room. We had 3 twin rooms and 2 of the rooms had a terrible night sleep due to it being close to airport so don't go here if you are wanting a good night sleep. wifi didn't work in the rooms but it did in communal area but still was very poor and the connection kept being lost. Also I think the staff need to have more thorough training as they were friendly but not very efficient at their jobs and were pretty useless. Got room service however had to go downstairs to collect the food as the guy on the phone didn't appear to know what was going on. Also the fire alarm went off at 7.30am. Although this does happen, some guests told us that this had happened on previous stays so the fire alarm system needs updated.

We tried to stay at the Airport before and after our recent holiday, but they were fully booked due to the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The Normandy was available so, having stayed there 5-6 years ago without issue (as far as I can recall) we were happy to book there again. We stayed 2 nights - 1 before and 1 after our week's holiday with 'secure' parking included.

Positives :-
1. The evening meal and breakfast we had were both good, with friendly staff.

Negatives :-
1. As per other reviews, the Hotel is very shabby once you are beyond the foyer.
2. We had 3 rooms - 2 double and 1 twin. The double rooms were ridiculously small with insufficient space to store your cases out of the way. The twin room was much larger.
3. As per other reviews, the room decor, furniture etc was in dire need of updating e.g. wallpaper was badly marked (probably due to people banging into them as the room is so small), and our bathroom sink took about 3 minutes to drain after removing the plug.
4. 1 of the 2 lifts was out of order but there was only a sign on Level 3 advising of this.
5. There was no wi-fi in the room despite the Hotel website and the 'Guest information' book in the room saying there should be. Reception staff then told me that it was available in the public areas only.
6. The car park isn't secure - the gate is left open throughout the day so any undesirable can access your vehicle. They say it's "secure" just because they have cameras there !
7. I followed the written instructions to send a text with my reference number from the airport on arrival, then waited ages for collection. The mini-bus eventually turned up (by chance apparently) then the driver said I shouldn't have texted as no-one reads them at night. Apparently I should have phoned, despite their written instructions saying to text.
8. We were then treated to a thrilling mini-bus ride back to the Hotel along a narrow road, at speeds in excess of 70mph
9. After finally getting to bed just after 1:30am, we were woken by the fire alarm at 07;30am and had to evacuate to the car park. I appreciate that this could happen anywhere, but I noticed that 2 other reviews from just 2 and 3 weeks ago respectively had a similar experience, so it appears that there is an issue with either fire safety or the alarm system.

In summary, I would only recommend this Hotel as a last resort. If you are able to book elsewhere, then do.

Found this hotel by accident. And was delighted with the Park and Stay deal we got. Same price as the parking at Flying Scot. Anyway , you could say it is on airport parking. The rooms are small, but well equipped. The restaurant is open till 9:30 and bar snacks are available till 10:30. The shuttle to the airport is fast and friendly. Well pleased.

Hotel bedroom was awfull, old wooden furniture badly in need of decoration and beds squeaked and felt like they would collapse. Walls paper thin and could hear all rooms on either side. Only 1power point in room and this didn't work and if it wasn't for the fact we arrived at 3am after a long flight we would have left!! Won't be using again very disappointing!

Pros - nice clean room, comfy bed, tea making facilities & toiletries, easy to get to the airport, airport transfer (to the airport) very efficient

Cons - List out of action, HUGE queues for check in (and then queue again for car parking admin), the sandwich at the bar was like something your granny would make (cheap sliced meat in sliced white bread), the return airport transfer took over half an hour to arrive.

The worst thing was the wrestling match going on in the adjoining part of the hotel, the doors between the two should have been closed as, all evening, an unpleasant selection of drunken radges, slappers and partially clothed sweaty wrestlers were using the public bar as an access route to god knows where. A little girl on the table next to use was terrified when two enormous skinhead tattooed bare-chested wrestlers walked past. Not nice when you are having a quiet family meal in the hotel bar.

To summarise, the room was good, the hotel was horrible.

Room Tip: Get a room furthest away from the adjoining venue.
