“Valentine Saturday !”
Reviewed 16 February 2014

To celebrate our anniversary and valentines day we booked in to Mar Hall as a treat. We were welcomed by Gordon at reception who guided us to our accommodation which was large airy and very comfortable. The hot water was plentiful and the room temperature perfect.
Our evening meal was served in the Cristal Restaurant and waited on by Michelle who was friendly and attentive .
We also were attended to by Nil (from Barcelona) excellent service and a genuine and friendly guy!
Janette attended to our breakfast and showed us where the staff get their great service qualities from as she was the Owner/ boss.
All in all a lovely night with beautiful food , service and preparation. We consider ourselves lucky to have found this Gem of a hotel and we will be back ! Thank you to all at the Mar Hall hotel !

Room Tip: We chose de luxe and were given an upgrade.... Room was comparable to the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas...

We booked here for my husband's 50th Birthday dinner, which we had in one of the private suites. I must say from the moment we first stepped through the door the staff were so helpful friendly and polite. Most of our family and friends were also staying at the hotel, and they too were very impressed with the hotel, it is a beautiful grand hotel.

Our room was absolutely gorgeous, large double bed, huge bathroom with a great shower and a lovely view over the river Clyde.

Nothing was too much trouble for Martin and his team who were looking after our dinner party of 17 guests in the Clyde suite. I would like to thank them for making the evening run so smoothly and really ensuring that we were well looked after throughout the night.

Overall, we all said how great the overnight stay was, only wish we had booked 2 nights instead of 1. The price of the hotel and the meal was very reasonable considering the grandness of the hotel and the quality of the meal that we had, which all our family and friends said the meal was fantastic.

Definitely would recommend this hotel for a private dinner and for staying over - really happy with our choice of hotel for my husband's 50th. Thank you all.

We stayed for 2 nights after a weekend with friends in Glasgow and loved it! We booked a deluxe room, which seemed to be well worth the price of upgrading, it was huge and beautifully furnished. The service was excellent throughout. We enjoyed walks by the river and the pool at the spa - very relaxing. We had afternoon tea, which was wonderful and all the food we had in the hotel was great. We were very sad to leave Mar Hill and will definitely be back. Another bonus is it's only about £15 in a taxi to the airport.

Hotel, bedroom, staff were all excellent! Dinner very good breakfast hot buffet although tasty could have been warmer! Really the only disappointing aspect was the lack of tablecloths at dinner(for a five star hotel a must) and my husband was seated facing a blind pulled down at the window! The seating should be arranged to allow all to enjoy the stunning wood and decor of the dining room! Also make sure you do not get charged for "free wi fi"£3 added to my bill for this! However all in all we did enjoy our visit.

It may have been because we booked through 5pm but this was not the visit we had anticipated.
Our original room was not available on the night we wanted to stay so we paid an extra £40 to upgrade to a deluxe room.
On entering the room the word deluxe seemed to be sadly lacking.
We had requested a bottle of rose wine but in the ice bucket was a bottle of white
I went back to reception to check that we were in the correct room as the wine was wrong and it didnt feel very "deluxe".
I was told that yes we were in a deluxe room and that the 5pm deal was for red or white wine.
After a fair bit of coming and going the receptionist said she would see what she could do to change the wine. Wasn't made to feel very welcomed, the option was on the website for rose wine when we booked. A bottle of rose did arrive as a replacement but did seem to be a bit of a hassle to change and surely they all cost the same?
We had intended to eat in the Italian restaurant but it was closed for refurbishment.
No warning was made to this fact when we booked. It didn't seem to have anything being done to it when we looked in the windows.
Our options were then either a bar meal or main restaurant.
We had been told on check in that the restaurant had tables at 6:30 should we wish to book.
Entering the bar area we were a little surprised to find a very large, approx 42 inch plasma tv showing a football match! Didnt seem very in keeping with the luxury romantic retreat they are trying to sell you.
Bar menu was very limited, I went to the restaurant to ask for a menu and to check if they still had tables as 6:30.
Several flustered staff members later, I was met by the blonde lady who seems to run the restaurant. Very off putting manner. Was told I could have a table but she would need it back in an hour. For a £35 three course Burns supper an hour seemed a bit tight.
And given her tone we didnt dare to take a table in case we went over time.
Opting for a bar meal we chose to sit in the great hall as the bar seating was too high for the low coffee tables, however the seats in the hall were too low for eating and so we made do with plates on our laps. Hardly ideal for was is supposed to be a top of the range hotel.

Our deluxe room was actually two single beds zipped together, rather tatty and with ripped headboards. To add to the deluxe feel, the duvet was two single duvets again zipped together, this provided a lovely rigged effect to the bed. Again not what we expect from a deluxe room.
The website shows beautiful rooms and luxurious decor, as we left we could see into all the other rooms and ours was the least attractive room we saw so maybe we were just unlucky.
Or maybe its there for cheaper deals ie wowcher and 5pm?
Anyone coming to Glasgow expecting a deluxe top of the range hotel, I feel would be very disappointed.
The chaps who offered to take our bags and the bar man were excellent and couldn't do enough. It seems to be the higher levels of management who I suggest need retrained in customer service.
As one of the baggage men said, Its a wedding hotel, if there's not a wedding going on there's a wedding faire in the grounds.

Room Tip: Book a suite or get a photo sent of the room you will have, we were very sadly disappointed.

A large Golfing Hotel 20 minutes by taxi from Glasgow Airport. Not really suitable for children. Lots of business users and golfers. Rooms large and spacious, good bathroom, TV and in room facilities. Room service available at a cost. Buffet style breakfast.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the main building not outside in the annexe

Had a fantastic stay at Mar Hall, we were upgraded to a suite which was wonderful. I could have lived in it but sadly we were only staying for one night. Food is excellent and the staff are friendly and efficient. Can highly recommend.
