“Katie's piece of heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2013

I was riding my Harley Davidson around from John O'Groats to Lands End with a friend on his Victory and at the end of the day traveling around the beautiful coast we happened upon Katie and her hospitality. Despite being two raggedy bikers we were welcomed and made to feel at home, in fact given the run of the place, the room was spotless and very comfortable.
The view across the Loch was stunning! best was yet to come... a breakfast to set you up for the day.
This remote B&B is really worth the trip and would be a great place to explore the highlands from.

We had doubts going to the north coast of Scotland, because it is a bit “out there”. Fortunately, we did. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip and we were very sorry we could only stay for two nights. A lot of this feeling is owed to Glenaladale and its fantastic hosts.

Glenaladale is situated at Loch Eriboll, and it offered us everything we required. The rooms were not huge, but big enough, and contained everything expected, and even some things we did not expect – e.g. the small refrigerator. Everything was clean and well maintained.
The hosts shared with us, including our guide-dog, also their living room and we had a wonderful evening there. The two other guests present were regulars, one of them an expert on Scottish music, and he played the most wonderful music to us. Add to that the sizzling fireplace, some good red wine, and a very entertaining conversation – we would be regulars too, if we lived just a bit closer.

The breakfast was great, too. Everything we expected, was there, and we had a perfect start into our days.

If we ever return into the area, we will certainly stay at Glenaladale again.

Katie and Donnie are truly the kindest and most gracious hosts you will ever find. Their beautiful house is yours while there. An evening of Celidh (Scottish Musical jaunt) if you request them for one. Stay here.

This accommodation had a lovely aspect overlooking Loch Eriboll. The rooms were clean and the hostess was a very pleasant and helpful lady. Breakfasts were good with a variety of choice. A good find in an area limited in accommodation choice.

Arrived late in the dark after phoning ahead and was met with the landlady shining a torch to guide me into the parking area. Once inside, a cup of tea was offered with choccy biscuits beside a roaring fire to warm me up. Swiftly followed by a cold beer to relax me. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. They even let me sit within their own private area so as my laptop could pick up a better wifi signal.

Breakfast was pre-ordered the night before was again excellent. Only stayed 1 night as I was on business but what a beautiful remote location. Opened the curtains in the morning to be greeted by the sight of Ben Hope slightly mist covered at it's summit. Scotlands most northerly munro. If and when I ever come back to climb it I will stay here.

There is nothing I could add to the five star reviews of this gem nestled by the shores of Lake Eriboll. Wonderful hosts, Excellent musical evening, although my humble accordion skills are not up to par with the hosts, Donnie and Kate, who are superb professionals. A memorable stay in a memorable setting.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent. The one we chose has three beds and was very comfortable indeed. All the ot...

If you are traveling along the north road towards Thurso and beyond, enjoying the breathtaking scenery that gets better and better with every turn of the wheel, then check in here. True, you are 7 miles from Durness and the nearest eating opportunity (The Smoo Cave Hotel) and need a car, but the welcome is warm as are the rooms and the yummy breakfast. Limited choice of channels on the TV but if you are miffed by that, you are in the wrong place and the wrong sort of holiday!
