The ladies in the Tourist office were so helpful discussing where m ancestors would have come from in the local area - by the end we worked out we may even be very distantly related!!

“Surprised me they had so little on the northern lights”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

Durness is fast becoming a hub for those that want to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) from the UK. It surprises me that there is so little in the local Tourist Information centre (currently only open a few days a week).

There was a pamphlet (though much of the information regarding the lights is actually incorrect !). There were no photographs on the wall and personally, I think they are missing out on huge potential here. They should have a board on display promoting the dark skies at Balnakiel beach and of the aurora which is more common up there than most people realise.
