for the 1st time we decided to visit our own country and ventured north to Drumnadrochit firstly for its location and secondly its previous reviews. I can only assume the latest reviews giving 5 are very easily pleased. To start with the exterior looks a bit run down and when checking in the receptionist asked us to wait a few minutes as he was serving in the bar. I noticed a review that the bar gets preference and can only concur. Eventually shown to our rooms and we had a lame excuse for a 4 poster bed, with 4 posts and nothing else really. The wallpaper and heater were coming away from the wall but the toilet was very clean and passable. For the meal I asked for a haggis and blackpudding tower but was told only a blackpudding tower only and several other dishes off the menu. For a main I took a pizza and you could pick your toppings so i went for chicken and Pineapple but there were onions in the pizza which I assume the bolognese sauce was used as the base for the pizza. Finally off to bed but only 1 pillow per person and I had to double my to get a decent sleep, but just as you are getting some shut eye the galloping dogs pounding up and down the stairs give you a rude awakening. On the plus side breakfast was great and bountiful but by that time the damage had been done. I would say for walkers and bikers who are out all day and muddy anmd dirty on your return this would be ideal but if your looking for a nice little upmarket hotel then avoid.

Thanks for your review but we felt we should point out a few inaccuracies in it.
Firstly, with regard to the room itself, that particular room is the one most of our repeat customers, of which there are many, request as they like the bed and don't want us to change it - otherwise we would have already as we've just recently put brand new beds in the other rooms. People obviously have different tastes. All our beds have at least 2 pillows per person and spares are available so we don't understand how you couldn't find them.
Regarding the food, the reason we sometimes run out of some dishes towards the end of service is because everything we cook is prepared from fresh ingredients - not frozen and thrown in a microwave. Our pizza sauce is again freshly made by our Scots/Italian Chef and is certainly nothing like a bolognese sauce. It's the finest I've ever tasted, and indeed that's also the opinion of most of the people who try it.
It would appear that you unfortunately didn't like what we offer - we're a high end 2 star Inn - comfortable, friendly, welcoming with excellent food and drink. It's just not possible or sensible for a 6 roomed Inn to employ a full time receptionist.
Just this morning a family checked out having stayed for 2 nights. I asked them if everything was OK, they replied "No, not OK - perfect!" We have an ever increasing number of repeat customers, something of which we are very proud.

Dear All, I really loved my stay at this most welcoming hotel, set in Drumnadrochit - it's truly a most pleasant getaway, great food, toasty home fires and run my two of the most nicest hospitable people. I enjoyed it's location surrounded by beautiful landscape, walks and it's a stone's throw from Urquhart Castle and many of Scotland's stunning sights, loch's and incredible beauty. Scotland is full of breathtaking beauty and this hotel is a great place to see it from or include in your visit!

We loved this old hotel! The rooms were charming and the pub has so much character. We loved the fact that dogs seem as much at home in the pub as do the humans. Our hosts were very friendly and accomodating. Delicious food! An excellent stay!

The hotel was quiet and the rooms were comfortable. The owners seemed more interested in running the pub than welcoming guests as we had to search for them when we needed info about the rooms. The pub in the hotel is a quaint and welcoming place complete with children and dogs.

Again used 'the Ben' as a base to play some of the fabulous golf courses the north of Scotland has to offer. The Stornaway black pudding for breakfast is sublime, the service fantastic and the ale beautifully looked after and plentiful. Got to get back soon!!!
