Once again I cannot praise the Benleva enough. The welcome is always cheery and heart-felt and as for the beer!! Always a fantastic selection and in premier condition. And the food ain't bad either - the scallops were sensational. After a full evenings entertainment and banter in the bar, off to very comfortable and clean accommodation to allow you to digest everything just in time for their full Scottish (and proper meaty sausages) in the morning. I love it. I wonder if they would consider a full time resident?

What a fantastic and friendly establishment the Benleva is. The quality of the welcome and the food is beyond reproach, I have travelled the UK for many years and indeed the world and it is rare that you find an establishment that makes you feel that your family would feel right at home as here, if they walked through the door. After a days yomping through the wilds - to have a tasty meal prepared by the Benleva's chefs (Thankyou Agnes and Rocco) and to then settle down and enjoy a myriad of real ales all perfectly kept is just bliss and the varity of whiskies is stunning. Complaints?! - well along with the rest of Drumnadrochit the Midge is king, but what are a few midge bites? In all seriousness this is the best port of call in Drumnadrochit, no the Highlands - reasonable, non-tourist prices, attentive and genuine hosts and a place where you can guarantee a cuddle from a friendly dog or three and lets be honest - The Sunday Roast for five quid cannot be faulted!!

Stayed 2 nights with my dog Snoopy and we were both made very welcome right from walking in the door at 4pm. A small family run hotel within walking distance of the shore of Loch Ness - thru woods. The bar get used by locals as a pub and they are very friendly, dogs welcome in bar and outdoor patio area. Would definitely return and recommend to friends.

We spent 3 nights here 23-26th and really enjoyed our stay. A little tucked away and about 1 mile from the village but that did not matter as their resteraunt was the best anyway. Steven and the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was large with a newly renovated shower room and heated towel rail (a definite plus for those who travel light). Local ales in the pub which is well frequented by locals. Good food at reasonable prices and a small room which ensures residents will get a table (the place is popular with locals as well).Wireless internet a plus. I am sure it is hard to keep up with decorating especially in the busy season and assume painting the odd room will occur when possible. There is a lack of hanging space in the rooms but this is already being addresses.
Overall we found this to be an extremely well run small hotel which has had the sense to employ a good chef so that residents do not need to go elsewhere for their evening meal.

Four years ago myself and my family stayed at this hotel . . . and the fact that it's taken me four years to write a review says two things. Firstly I think before I put my name to anything (!!??!!) and secondly . . . I have never forgot my experience of staying at this hotel.
I had heard that the Scots were a friendly bunch but being Irish myself I wondered if there was anywhere in the world that could beat the Irish culture, cuisine and 'craic' - This hotel was one of the best I have encountered world wide.
It offered us a real taste of Scotland, an experience that we had come to believe was none existent. We had stayed in a few other places around (including a castle) but the friendly atmosphere, delicious food, laid back attitude where nothing is too much trouble and, what I felt was a genuine interest and attempt to meet our needs.
One day we took a hike up through the woodlands of Glen Afric and ended up being eaten alive with insect bites, on return we were informed of a product better than any insect repellent and given a bottle of it . . . I still use it and recommend it to others. (Avon 'Skin so Soft')
We ended up staying longer than we had anticipated and forgot about touring the rest of Scotland - we felt we had it all here.
If you are looking for the experience of a five star hotel - go somewhere else - thankfully you won't find it here.
What you will find is a place where you are welcome, the food is great, the beds are comfy, the linen is clean, the bar is downstairs and full of local characters and you won't feel as though you were ripped off. . . . you'd have to travel a long way to find it again.

  • Liked — Genuine friendliness of its owners.
  • Disliked — Having to laugh about the cracked toilet seat!!!

So long as you're not expecting the Hilton then you won't be disappointed with the Benleva.
There are a few bad points but they're far outweighed by the good ones.
Our room was basic and clean but definitely a bit shabby and the lack of a wardrobe was a bit of a pain. The bathroom though was slap-bang up to date with a great shower.
The housekeeping was a bit hit and miss but all requests for fresh towels etc were speedily dealt with.
The food was excellent, definitely no complaints at all whether at breakfast or dinner.
The hospitality was superb and everyone was very friendly and helpful.
All in all our experience was a good one and even though there is definitely room for improvement as far as the decor goes we couldn't fault the rest.
Just remember that you're not paying the Earth and enjoy, we did!!

The Benleva gets 4 stars out of 5, and rising. Stayed here for a night this summer, and felt like we scored. Loch Ness is simply a beautiful lake, marred only by the ridiculous Nessie exhibits just north of town. Everywhere else, including the drive up Western Scotland, is excellent. The Benleva is a perfect stop- affordable, clean, pub and restaurant included onsite (not loud at night, either), and what seems to be a constant commitment to improvement and reinvestment by the affable owners. We took a chance despite some of the older reviews, and found this to be one of the best values on our trip. We would definitely check in here again.
