We ate here twice on our holiday and on the first occasion all went well as we were eating fairly early on in the evening. The pub had been recommended to us, particularly for the fish and chips - we were not disappointed! The portions were (as we had been warned) HUGE so definitely no need for a starter! Service was friendly and we were given a table upstairs. There is a nice busy atmosphere with lots of tourists of varying nationalities, which was lovely. However, on our second visit here we were eating a bit later which meant that it was busy, much busier - so much so that the man in charge (the owner?) was putting people at tables with a military precision. He was even asking people to share table of four which is not everyone's cup of tea - it was not mine. We managed to get a table for two but watched some couples react with panic when the owner tried to sit them with other couples - on many of these occasions couples found themselves sitting side by side with their partner and sitting opposite a stranger while having their dinner - quite awkward and uncomfortable it appeared for many. As we sat and ate our meal ( average pub fare apart from the fish and chips) we watched as many tourists found themselves forced to sit with strangers and indeed some being asked to move if they were only having drinks as the owner "was losing money on food from customers". I understand that business can be tough for some establishments but I felt that the owner seemed to have a "money at any cost" attitude. I will add that he was always polite and efficient but maybe at the risk of losing return custom. It made me think twice about going back to eat there.
