The room in the hotel was great. Very clean, and comfortable. The bar while well advertised was empty and not representative of the local pubs. Breakfast was all the std stuff with a few additions. I'd stay there again but I'd go to a B&B if there for more that 1 night. Wi fi worked but sporadic.

We could not fault our stay at the Lovat. A gorgeous wee hotel that manages to match Highland charm with modern comforts perfectly. It has the most beautiful veiwpoint over Fort Augustus, and the start of Loch Ness of any lodgings in the area. Couple that with all the mod cons you could dream of... an amazingly comfortable bed, beautiful antuique furntiure, and the tv screen set into the bathroom wall was most welcome when the world cup was on.

We didnt get a chance to eat in the restaurant in the evening, but the breakfast was perfect. Some of the best black pudding and haggis i've eaten in years.

Didn't get a chance to check out the spa treatments, but they did seem very reasonably priced.

In short, I cant think we wil make another trip to the Highlands without stopping at Fort Augustus, and the Lovat.

We stayed here for one night when attending out friends wedding. The hotel is situated on a hill overlooking the loch, canal and hills.
We stayed in the annexe room which was much nicer than we expected. the room was a good size, spotlessly clean, with a wet room bath/shower room. We had full sky TV and a very comfy bed.
The hotel was a great venue for an intimate wedding.
The breakfast in the morning was great. Lots of choice and plenty on the buffet. An extra tray when we checked out....a bag of fresh cookies for our journey home. Fantastic. We'll be back.

Rooms are a little dated, as is the restaurant. Was expecting a little more for the price to be honest. It's well located but overall not that great. Thought that it could be a little nicer given the downstairs area is so nicely set up. The place has excellent branding and a great website, the actual experience is a bit odd. In particular the restaurant decoration is just plain odd - a mixture of 80's 'modern' and business lounge at the airport.

I am so sorry to hear that The Lovat did not live up to your expectations. We are always disappointed to receive such reviews, however we appreciate you taking the time to write honestly about your experience as without feedback, we would not be able to learn from our mistakes and improve on the guest experience.

With regards to the rooms being dated, we are working on this at present and have recently updated some with more due to be done over the winter, but unfortunately as a family run business we can only do this when finances dictate.

As for the Brasserie being an odd mix, then – yes, I agree this bolted on building does jar with the rest of the hotel – it has been shoddily put together – with awful PVC non functional windows; it is too low set from the car park; it is difficult to illuminate properly; and it doesn’t have a great view. BUT what can you do? This is something we inherited when bought the property in 2005 and it is a structure that we cannot just remove (although I would love to!). It has dramatically changed for the better and continues to be revamped as finances dictate but like any business that is your own – money takes time to accumulate and we have to prioritise accordingly.

We do appreciate the time it has taken for you to share your views and hope that this explanation helps you to understand our position.

Stayed at The Lovat for just the one night. Welcomed by friendly Aussie girl who then showed us to our room. It was one of the outside rooms which looked like a 3 star motel. However inside the room was spacious and modern with a huge bathroom and walk in shower. Disappointed that our parking space was taken up by workmen staying there so had to park over the other side of the complex. Maybe this could be addressed for future guests. Breakfast was delicious. If I stayed at the Lovat again, I would ask for an inside room to get the 'full experience' of staying in a lovely property.

We stayed at five different hotels across our Scottish Highlands trip, and while this was the most expensive of them it I can't say it was the best. It was nice, and I have not big complaints, but it was not really great value for money. Had the price reflected the value, I'd be giving this place a much better review. This place is clearly aiming to be a higher end place, but I don't feel it warrants the price tag. Rooms were nice, and I was pleased that they put our two rooms for our family of 5 right next to each other. Beds were not the most comfortable beds, and duvets were too heavy. A bit too much furniture crammed into the rooms made the rooms feel even smaller. The bathrooms, by contrast, were massive! Great shower and huge space. The hotel's public spaces are really lovely, very spacious yet inviting. Nice places to relax and enjoy a book. The restaurants, we ate at the cheaper Brasserie. The food was very nice, but this is really where the hotel scores low points for bad value. While very nice food, it was horribly overpriced. The portion sizes were just too small for money paid, and we are not huge eaters. The mains were more like starter sizes, and children's chicken goujons was pathetic, two small strips of chicken and about 5 chunky chips. Service was also kind of strange. Not smooth, and we had to ask for a things multiple times. Service otherwise in the hotel was great. Very friendly staff. I might stay at this hotel again, but can't say for sure. Nice place, but just a bit overpriced.

Many thanks for taking the time to write on TripAdvisor, it is greatly appreciated as without feedback, we would not be able to learn from our mistakes and improve on the guest experience.

It seems that on the whole you had a great experience but were perhaps a bit niggled by the prices and portion sizes in the Brasserie.

Feedback for the Brasserie is generally very positive as all of the dishes on our menu are seasoned, fresh and made on site. We also believe that our brasserie portion sizes are well balanced, allowing everyone to enjoy three courses – perhaps next time inform us that you would like a larger portion so we can accommodate your requirements. We want guests to go away happy – demands can be so varied between customers so it is very difficult to please everyone all of the time. We look forward to getting it right for you next time.

We stayed at The Lovat for one night only in August and wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel has been modernised to the highest standards but with keeping the old character intact. Our room (master) was spacious and so was the bathroom with good quality soaps, shampoos and creams. High quality linen on the bed with a lovely fluffy douvet and pillows. For me you can see that the owners are proud of their hotel and rightly so. High quality products at breakfast, very tasty. Walking distance of the Loch and the canal. If we ever go back to the area we will definitely stay here again. What a gem!
