We slept in a b&b in the village and on evenings the hotel is the only place to go for a warm meal. The people working there weren't too polite and really stressed because a lot of people came to eat there. Our meal was average and my husband got a kids portion which he paid 15 pound for. After we where ready the waitress came and took the plates just saying we look ready, that was it. Really poor service!

We arrived in Invermoriston around 2pm one afternoon in May after having walked from Fort Augustus on the Great Glen Way (approx. 12 miles without any facilities) and just as the rain was starting. Invermoriston is a stopping point on the way. We saw signs for a Cafe (Glen Rowan) marked 200 yards and made a run for this only to find the owner was closing shop for the afternoon for an appointment. We then proceeded to the nearby Glenmoriston Hotel, the main sign for which said 'Open to non-residents' and 'A warm Highland welcome' only to find a notice on the door saying 'Non-residents only served from 4pm.' The only other option in the village was the Post Office/Shop which serves carry-out coffee and had a couple of benches outside. Service here was very pleasant. At one point there were around 12 walkers on the small terrace in the drizzle. I would not recommend a stop in Invermoriston to anyone doing the Great Glen Way - carry on to the next stage!

I was only here to eat an evening meal. It was more like good home-cooked food than a restaurant. But I do have to say that the candied ginger really did not not go with the salmon and crayfish, as nice it was!

We stayed here at the weekend and what could have been a very negative experience was saved by excellent customer service. Returning to Glenmonriston Arms after a great trip here in 2010, we were staying in the rooms detached from the hotel (as before), which are still as fresh as 4 years ago with a fabulous bathroom (the shower is excellent). After a terrible first nights sleep we returned tired after a day of driving around the Glens and decided to try and turn the mattresses to see if that helped the comfort. Subsequently we discovered the bed base was badly damaged and had damaged the mattress. I went and informed the staff who sent Ailsa (the owner) down to the room to see us. She was very apologetic about the situation and offered to try and find us a B&B as they were fully booked. We decided we would rather try and stay in the room as we had made dinner plans. Ailsa arranged for a man to come and make a temporary repair (understandable that with the rural location you couldn't just pick a bed up at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon!). We were advised that we would not be charged for our accommodation for the stay. We felt that this was fair and was excellent customer service. The staff throughout the weekend were great and are a real asset to Ailsa. Food was excellent (loved the scallops and black pudding) and sitting in front of the fire choosing from the whiskey menu was great. Our experience here this weekend has ensured that we will be back. Things can always go wrong in the service industry but it is how it is dealt with that will always stick in your mind.

Stayed here last Saturday night. We had a very pleasant visit.. The lady who welcomed us and ran the show was extremely friendly and very professional. Our dinner was excellent and in particular the venison was superb. The room was fine but the television had obviously survived the Ark. The girls in the bar were very efficient and hard working . They smiled their way through the evening despite having a party to go to. We will go back.

We picked this hotel for an ovenight stay because we had an excellent Dinner here in May 2013.
Good welcome at reception upon arrival. Very pleased with our room, the bar, and Breakfast.
Unfortunately the Dinner this year was disappointing.

Sunday night despite our landlady booking for 7.30 there was lots of under breath muttering and we were asked to take a seat in the lounge for 10 minutes . 45 minutes later we received menus . An hour later our order was taken and then shown to table. starters of black pudding ( Stornaway) with goats chees and red onion marmalade was excellent. Medium rare steak unfortunately was well done and fish in the fish and chips was a bit dry. Wine Dry river Shiraz was very good and not over priced. TV in bar adjacent to lounge and dining room was blaring away with Pirates of the Caribbean to no audience in particular which didn't do much for the ambience.
We decided to give the place a second try .This time no problem with the booking, the restaurant was not so busy so perhaps the previous night had stretched their capacity and their Bonhomie
TV still blaring out some dreadful film at full blast to no audience at all

Scallops thewaitress confessed were frozen so went for Crayfish salad plus on 15 cucumber slices fine if you like cucumber but I don't but the waitress brought leaf salad without demur.
Sea bass with tagliatelle with prawns had plenty of big prawns
Salmon with sauté potatoes was delivered without garlic as requested and very nice
Australian Pinot Grigio quite pleasant £15.50
So a better experience second time round.

Your landlady did not book a table for you. When she phoned it was explained quite clearly that there were no tables available at 7.30pm. We offered an alternative time which was declined. So when you turned up anyway the under breath muttering was staff discussing how and when we could accommodate you. Trying to help. Apologies if you had to wait a while. the waitress did explain. We didn't give you menus until we were nearly ready for you because we had a full restaurant and they were in use. The two young lads who dined in front of the TV chose the programme (we gave them the remote) and when they left we never turned it over as no-one seemed bothered, and staff were certainly too busy to even notice what was on. If you objected to Pirates of the Carribean you should have said so at the time. We would have been happy to turn it over, down or off. Despite your annoyance you opted to come back a second time so thank you for that, I'm pleased you gave us a second chance but I have to say, if you and your landlady had only communicated with each other a bit better you might have had a better experience the first time too.
