... when exploring Scotland's west coast. Warm welcome, cosy atmosphere, nice bar and restaurant. Freshly prepared breakfast.

The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms functional. The village however is small and hardly offers leisure facilities, except for the pub which is at the hotel!

Dear George0815
Thank you for your kind comments regarding your welcome to the hotel and your thoughts on the bar, restaurant, rooms and breakfast. We are happy that everything was to your liking. The village is indeed small and to many that is the main attraction as people try to escape their busy lives and enjoy the outdoors and the landscapes.
I hope you will have another visit to the area and to the hotel.

We had wanted to visit the hotel for a long time and finally did last month. We stayed in the sea-facing Oscaig room, and dined in the bar both evenings. I would say that the room was a little dated, and our bed mattress although comfortable left us both with slight back-ache. The bathroom was large, with a shower over the bath. However I decided to have a bath after a walk, and the cold tap simply wouldn't turn on at all.
The bar meals were fairly standard (best was fish and chips) and the wine we chose was their special at £15 a bottle. If you're looking for a more interesting menu, I'd suggest going to the wonderful SALT cafe which is further along the road. Superb seafood and completely unpretentious (had lunch here on arrival).
Would we go back to the Summer Isles Hotel? Probably not. It's currently on the market I believe, and this shows a little. Beautiful location - would make some hotel owner a very lucky person.

Room tip: Oscaig is worth paying the premium for in terms of a seaview. Why go to Achiltibuie to look at a car park?

Dear eater-out1460
Thank you for your recent review and I'm really sorry to hear that you felt disappointed after waiting such a long time to visit the Summer Isles. Thank you for telling me on departure about the bath tap as we were unaware there was a problem. A new set of taps were fitted within days and are now working perfectly - so thanks again. The mattresses are changed regularly so I can only apologise that this one wasn't suitable for you.

We spent one night at the hotel after a day's hillwalking. We stayed in a lovely room called the Boat House which has a lovely lounge with a log burner, spacious bathroom and upstairs bedroom. Dinner in the Bar was excellent, the menu offered a good choice and all three courses were beautifully presented and very enjoyable.
Breakfast was delicious, my husband is a porridge fan and was very impressed with the chef's offering. The Full Scottish and Eggs Royale were equally good.
The dining room is simply beautiful and manages to combine a level of grandeur with a homely warmth. We don't think many views could beat the one we had at breakfast yesterday morning. We didn't experience the 'fine dining' experience however Michael the chef's reputatiion was a point of discussion in the lounge and it may well require a further visit before Autumn is out.
Service could not be faulted, Debbie the GM greeted us warmly on arrival and Cyril showed us to our room and explained the necessary details. Francisco, Norbert, Miriam and Atila were equally attentive at dinner and breakfast - the art of customer service is alive and well at the Summer Isles, altogether a great experience!

Room tip: Cottage rooms to the left are very quiet and have amazing views

Dear fionahall2016
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are all delighted to hear that you enjoyed your recent visit to Achiltibuie and had the opportunity to do some hill walking in this lovely area.
Thank you for your very kind words regarding the hotel, the food and the staff - I have passed on your comment to the Chef about the porridge!
It would be wonderful if you did manage another visit before Autumn is out!

Although this hotel is a bit of a drive from Ullapool and other areas it is an absolute treat. The drive off the main road is single lane but it is no concerns waiting for on coming traffic as the scenery is breathtaking. On arrival we we warmly greeted and advised of the area and some of the history of the hotel, including the room we stayed in The Chaplin room (where Charlie Chaplin stayed). The room was a good size and bathroom although not updated with modern fittings was adequate. As some other reviews have mentioned noise from the bar area could be heard from the room but this did not bother me, my wife did state it delayed her falling to sleep. We enjoyed the views of the ocean for hours with some drinks from the bar attached before taking in a bar meal of lovely fish and chips. Breakfast was lovely with a wonderful view and good service. If you are looking for some space in a great setting this is a great spot.

Dear Shaun T
Thank you for your kind comments. The Charlie Chaplin room is a bit of a talking point and many people are surprised to hear that Charlie Chaplin himself came to stay in this very rural location - I guess he too, needed some relaxation! I doubt though that Charlie Chaplin was bothered from the noise from the bar - back in the day people were probably a lot quieter! I am sorry that you were disturbed - the bar closes at 11.00pm so I hope your wife was not kept awake too long and I hope it didn't spoil your stay.
Thank you for commenting on the bar food and the service you received.
We hope you will make a return visit at some time.

We had stayed in a cottage in Achiltibuie thirty years ago. At that time the summer isles hotel seemed a very swish place indeed and well beyond our means; except for the bar of course. But, reader, we finally got to stay there! Maybe not quite as swish as it was but still a very comfortable and pleasant place. We ate in the restaurant the first night and the bar the second and both had virtues. Breakfast overlooking the islands was great.. The complaints about the pricey wine list are justified. However you do get the list in your room and so a bit of forensic scrutiny is poss; and there are some bottles around £30 that are not unreasonable. On the last day the sun came out and the drive back to Ulapool was simply sublime. Arty tip; try the Rhue Gallery on the way back for James Hawkins excellent landscape paintings and prints.

Room tip: room in amin hotel nice but annex of cabins with turf roofs would be wacky

Dear Simon h
Thank you for your recent review and delighted that you returned to Achiltibuie after 30 years! Thank you for the kind words about the hotel and the food and your comments about the wine list which others may find helpful.
We are very spoilt here with the landscape and naturally there are a few Art Galleries in the area - Rhue Gallery is more well known but even our local artists at the Achiltibuie Art Gallery have some wonderful and unusual artwork for sale.
