My partner and I and our 4 collies visited Windyhill for a week long break and really didn't want to come home! Firstly - thank you so much for being dog friendly..!!!
Being fairly familiar with the area, we had an idea of what to expect from that and places to go and things to do etc.
The lodge itself is just beautiful..!! There is loads of space for a lot of people and even more for just 2. We also got an unexpected low occupancy discount! The 3 bedrooms all have comfy beds and are toasty and cozy even in the snow with the underfloor heating, which is great!
As we were doing a lot of walking in the great Scottish winter, the wee laundry room downstairs was invaluable! It houses a washing machine and dryer and also clothes pegs if you want to hang out your washing! Also, an ironing board, Hoover etc
The wooden staircase to the upper floor is lovely and easy to sweep the dog hair from!!
The upper floor is also toasty and has a lovely lived in wooden floor and lots of seating areas - although we always sat at the gigantic window! We did use the log burner and sadly ran out of logs before the end of the week, but as this was for effect and not actual heat then that was ok! As the upper floor is open plan I did worry about being cold but I actually had to open the kitchen window when I was cooking as it was too warm.
The cottage itself is equipped with everything you need and more. It's tastefully decorated, exceptionally clean and very inviting.
The garden is huge and fully enclosed.
Remember your flip flops as there's a path to the hot tub and it can be a cold walk without them! Towels are provided for hot tub use. Sitting in the hot tub in the snow looking out at the sea and the islands is heaven on earth!
The pub is about an 8 minute walk away, and there's a torch at the cottage to borrow for the stagger home ;) The food served at the pub is of a very high standard and the people are very friendly!
There's loads to do when you're out and about and you never get fed up with the surrounding beauty!
The customer service we have received from Mark & Sadie has been second to none! Emails always answered promptly and helpful in every way.
We have a 5 year plan to move north that we're 2 years into. First dibs on Windyhill if you guys are selling up at that point..!!
We'll definitely be back if you'll have us :)
We spent a week at Windyhill as a family with my Dad joining us for most of the week. This house definitely has a "wow" factor. When we arrived, after exploring the bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs, coming up the stairs and seeing the amazing view was fantastic.
The house is very well equipped - the owners have done a great job of equipping this house and have definitely responded to all of the minor niggles that some other reviews have reported. We really could not fault this house in any way. Perfect.
Windyhill is a great location for exploring the wonderful area - amazing walks for all capabilities. We did walks to the Falls of Kircaig, along the side of Coigach, round Stac Pollaidh, and along past Reiff. It was great to come back from these to the hot tub, the views across the isles and the occasional sightings of porpoises in the bay.
Recommend taking a good set of binoculars to keep a look out for wildlife wherever you go including for that amazing picture window.

As a first time visitor to Scotland from the U.S. I wasn't disappointed, my boyfriend insisted we spend some time on the west coast and we found a little slice of heaven at Windyhill. The views from the living room were breathtaking, we spent hours just taking in the scenery, the changing colors of the sky and the ocean.
We are both quite active and hikes at Stac Pollaidh and Suilven were amazing and so close to Windyhill. Best of all was relaxing every night in front of the wood fire. Easily the most peaceful break we've had in a perfect setting.
The hot tub is lovely and well maintained (although the lid blew away up the garden in a storm as the security straps are broken - we weighted it down with stones after that!).
The view from the upper floor of the house is beautiful, looking right over the Summer Isles. There is another property in front but it hampers the view only slightly.
There are plenty of niggling issues with the house, which is a pity. If it was marketed as 'ordinary' we might not have felt so disappointed, but as we are led to believe that it is luxury these rankled a little. The house is comfortable enough but would benefit from some attention by the owners. Overall, it felt 'stingy'. We have to pay extra for the use of the hot tub, no dishwasher tablets, no washing powder, only enough toilet paper, washing up liquid and hand wash to get us started. Even though we'd booked the hot tub we didn't get extra towels - just one each plus a hand towel to share.
Kitchen: no kitchen scales or scissors, blunt kitchen knives, insufficient fridge space for 6 people and the fridge door ran aground on the kitchen floor. Kitchen food storage space and work surface were both limited.
Main bedroom: enough dust under the main bed to line a mouse's nest and a cold bathroom (why have underfloor heating in the bedroom and then nothing more than a heated towel rail and a wall-mounted fan heater in the bathroom?).
General: some faulty blinds which wouldn't close and electrical appliance PAT tests have recently expired. The front door leaks as it has no seals; we had to mop up 2 buckets of water in the first hour we were there (we arrived in a storm!). The information leaflets are out of date as quite a few of the amenities in the area have closed down.
Never mind, we had a lovely relaxing holiday...

This was our second visit to Windyhill, and we have booked again for this year. The house is comfortable and well equiped, it has obviously been fully refurbished relatively recently, the garden is securely fenced which is great if you have children or dogs. The views over the Summer Isles are amazing. The beach at Achnahaird is beautiful and virtually empty and the dogs love it. The local pub is within easy walking distance and serve superb meals, specially the local seafood. We have had two really enjoyable relaxing but fun holidays.
