We went here for coffee and cakes after a very disappointing lunch at the Applecross Inn. We were made very welcome which was a change after the indifferent service and disappointing portions at the Applecross Inn. The coffee and home baking were excellent. The surroundings were delightful on a warm summers day. It is well worth finding this place and avoiding the overrated Applecross Inn.

We were there in a very cold April so the flowers had not yet come through, but I did find the gardens to be very charming. The restaurant was practically empty when we arrived, but the people did start to come later on. Food arrived quickly, we ordered the hummus to share which was fantastic, but did not come with enough bread (did ask for more!). For mains we had the spicy crab cakes, which were very spicy as promised and very nice (the waitress also warned us about the spiciness before hand as well!). I did find the service a little lacking, I had to go up to the counter to ask for another drink, but nothing that wouldn't stop me going back if I am ever lucky enough to be in the area again.

This restaurant tucked away in the sanctuary that is Applecross is a gem....
fine dining in a relaxed comfortable environment... the staff are welcoming - providing good service combined with perfectly judged friendly non-intrusive repartee.
And well the food - the food is beautifully presented and scrummy - and just the right amount on the plate, in contrast to the Applecross Inn where the food is piled high and daunting.
Ambience?....pleasant background music, the hum of quiet conversations - it is a nice place to loiter while enjoying a cold beer,a coffee and home baking - inside or weather permitting outside in the pretty garden - and free WiFi too.
Visiting Applecross? You must visit the Potting Shed and take a walk along some of the lovely waymarked paths which link the Walled Garden to the village by the shore.

a bit more upmarket than the applecross inn and set in a walled garden. always quiet when we went so little atmosphere as everyone is in the applecross inn but lovely food. puddings can be a bit pretentious. worth a visit tho and wander around the garden.

had dinner with friends at the potting shed a few days ago. the restaurant remains a culinary highlight in an area where there are several really good seafood restaurants. so what makes it so special? well...the location is lovely in a fabulous walled garden. the atmosphere is relaxed and there´s enough room between tables to feel comfortable. there´s no pressure to graze and move on...this can be a problem at the also very popular (deservedly so) applecross inn. service is swift and friendly, presentation good, but best of all...the food is fresh, tasty and very good indeed. we generally stick to the superb local seafood, but our friends were equally impressed with thier lamb mains. we all had starters of hand dived scallops with black pud on a warm rubharb salad nest....excellent! the only thing we really miss here is good draught ale...but you can also go for a pint down the road afterwards. thanks again to the potting shed team...keep up the grand work, we´ll be back soon!
