I heard about the Applecross Inn from a customer who highly recommended it, and as I and my wife love travelling to Scotland I decided to book a couple of nights here as a surprise for our Anniversary, Valentines, and Birthday present :)

She didn't know where we were going till we passed Eilean Donan castle which made alot of fun to keep her guessing, it was very cold when we went, -10 on Rannoch Moor and snow everywhere, even better up Applecross pass also know as Belach Na Ba, the highest pass in Britain, some cracking views up there :)

A lovely warm welcome on arrival, and the room was perfect, nice and cosy with a great view across the bay. I had smuggled a cake along in the car so I sneaked that in and it was hidden safely in the kitchen at the Inn ready for later. We enjoyed a cracking meal that night, trying out the award winning seafood menu, followed by the surprise birthday cake that I had smuggled in with us, the land lady did offer to sing happy birthday when it was brought out but I though it best to save my wife the embarrassment hehe.

Next morning it had snowed overnight, and as we were planning on a road trip to Inverness we were worried that we wouldn't make it back over the pass, we were reassured by the land lady that it would only be a localised snow shower and that we would make it over the pass, so we set off to the top following the road snow markers up to the top of the pass. Once we reached the top we found a snow plough just finished a brew, he told us the other side was clear now, and that he was about to clear the road down into Applecross! Excellent :)

We had a very pleasant stay and did try to return this year in April but unfortunately it was fully booked which didn't surprise me :)
We will return one, and we look forward to that day.

Fabulous drive to Applecross via steep single track road with passing places. Wonderful scenery leading to a great pub with real ales. Bear garden overlooking the vast bay with views of Skye. Serves food but didn't eat there, though the food looked very good.

We stayed for one night - the room was adequate, but that's not why you go to Applecross. The road over is an experience and not for the faint hearted! The setting and views are so restful (but then we had warm and sunny weather)
The food was amazing - so busy. Again a relaxed atmosphere with people around you wanting to chat and share their experiences.
Would recommend the experience.

we ate there 2 consecutive nights 18th & 19th July 2014. Staff friendly, efficient & knowledgeable price/pint very reasonable (NOT exploiting their "geographic monopoly" at all!) I was recommended to have a "dash of tonic" with my partner's gin to save £. food excellent, great service despite "near insane busyness" (we did have to wait a short while for dessert after stunning steaks on 19th due to everyone "eating in because of manic extra weather induced busyness".) I have limited mobility & a table was found within 1 minute of My, my partners & teenage Son arriving. Thoroughly recommended, best advice for seating at peak times, go early

My husband and I were here over the weekend, and what a fabulous place it is !! Its seafront location is just wonderful and the atmosphere created by the bustle of visitors from all around the world was just fantastic. We ate there for the two nights we stayed in Applecross.
The food was SO SO good, all locally sourced and the seafood was some of the best I have ever had - the Langoustines and mussels I had were cooked to perfection ! We both could not fault the food , it was scrumptious !
The waiting staff were warm, friendly and courteous - even though they were exceptionally busy - they were still smiling and able to ask us how we were doing. The bar staff were also extremely kind and allowed us to taste the local ales before committing to a pint.
The bar has a great energy and atmosphere - and made even better when you can sit and enjoy your local seafood whilst gazing out to the sea from a window seat. It can be busy around you, but you still feel relaxed and certainly not rushed in any way with you food - we enjoyed two relaxing evening there, and it was very busy.
We can`t wait to return !

lovely place lovely hospitality. watch the bar as they will rip you off for prices. just been there this week and the barstaff are being taught how to rip you off , my own eyes experience. i would have thought they were doing well enough but obviously the bar manager would like to increase staff bonuses. i have been going to applecross for over 20 years on and off in winter i have stayed there. but thats my last you are stealing from a valued customer no more.

If you want peaceful remoteness this is not the place to go. Its a constant bustle of coming and going and the evenings between 5 and 9 are as busy as any city centre pub.

I shamelessly pinched the title 'victim of it's own success' from another review as it sums things up so well. The Inn is packed out at all times and an evening meal is a fight for space. Thankfully if you are a resident you can have a table booked to guarantee you get fed! The food is good but its good pub food only, don't get too excited that its going to be something special. That said we didn't try the famous langoustines, mainly because being surrounded by so many other people covered in fishy juice to the wrist and with their tables covered in shells you sort of felt you had had most of the experience already.

After about 10.00pm seating is easier and a quieter drink can be enjoyed.

On the commendable side, staff were friendly and helpful and the room was noticeably clean and a reasonable size. The shower was superbly powerful and you exited feeling on the brink of being drowned, which was certainly invigorating. The room had a great view of the sound and cracking the window open allowed gentle sea noises to lull us to sleep. Although the internal corridor is squeaky, it was quiet after 10.00ish and very quiet after 11.00. Light sleepers should be ok. Apparently room 1 is the best to ask for.

Breakfast was fine, although if you venture out of the breakfast room and into the pub area to eat be prepared to share your breakfast with that fishy smell again.

In sum, a little pricey, not remote and peaceful, but certainly not bad either.
