From the log fires in the hall to the peaceful lounge and tasty meals this hotel was excellent . It is a true country house hotel which gives wonderful service in all areas. As a single traveller I was in a small but comfortable room which gave me all I needed for a good nights rest. I had been there many years before and the standards are just as good as they were then.

Very friendly and welcoming service really make this hotel stand out. Big comfortable rooms ensured a really good nights sleep with great views in all directions regardless of which part of the hotel you are in. Masses of big receptions rooms and lounges with board games and books to relax with made the hotel a very chilled place to be. It's is also well off the main road so very peaceful.

An excellent hotel in so many ways. Service second to none, food out of this world and a great location. The owners are so welcoming and make this a truly great experience. I will be recommending it to others and can't wait to go back myself!

After a week travelling the Highlands we stopped here for lunch en-route to the airport, outstanding service and food in the most wonderful setting. Look out for the sign to the hotel as its quite small and easily missed, it caught our eye and we bothered to turn back, many may not. Truly worth every penny.

Just had a two night stay at the Coul House Hotel in Contin. Stuart and Susannah couldn't have been better hosts. They have a wonderful ability to make every guest feel very special and completely pampered. The food was incredible, they must have a very talented chef! The hotel and surrounding gardens are a perfect place to recharge the batteries and feel a million miles away from the everyday pressures of work and home. Chris (the barman) is so attentive and nothing is too much trouble at all. All together a fabulous place!

Went here for our 29th wedding anniversary, and the whole experience from start to finish was wonderful.
When we arrived at the hotel we were met in the car park by Chris the hotel General manager, who welcomed us and checked us in. We were upgraded to the four poster room, and were taken there personally by Chris. In the room was a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, which was really thoughtful, and completely unexpected.
The room is small, but we also had the use of a small ante room which was attached. The views from the window were lovely, with the Mountains in the background. The bathroom was tired and in need of a little TLC, but this was no problem whatsoever.
We had dinner on two occasions during our stay, the food was excellent on both occasions. On the night of our Anniversary, I ordered a sorbet as my desert, which arrived on a large plate, with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate around the edge of the plate. When we went up to our room, Chris rang our room to ask if we wanted a "wee dram" brought up as it was our Anniversary, we declined, as after the fab dinner we just couldn't have managed anything else, (a bit like the last after dinner mint on the Monty Python sketch ) but the kind offer was very much appreciated.
We travelled up to John o Groats on one day, and ordered a packed lunch form the hotel, which again was excellent.
As for the service, excellent does not do it justice. All staff were without any exception, excellent, there is a real hospitable family feel about the hotel, and you just feel instantly at home. It is very traditional so if your looking for a boutique time of hotel then this is different, but so good, try it.
I would definitely return to this hotel in the future, they all made our Anniversary one of the best ever, Stuart and Suzanna, your staff are a credit to you, and your hotel is one of the friendliest I have ever stayed in, thank you.

Room Tip: The four poster room is a tad small, but very nice, if you want space go for the large mountain or g...

We recently held a family celebration (my wife's birthday) with a party of 26 in this wonderful hotel. We had the most perfect time from the time we arrived on Saturday afternoon until we left on Sunday forenoon. Although there were other guests in the hotel, we were made to feel so welcome by Stuart and Chris that we all totally relaxed and enjoyed the facilities of this wonderfully comfortable and beautiful old building. Our dinner, in the beautiful octagonal dining room, was absolutely fantastic - wonderful choices, beautifully cooked and served by an attentive but unobtrusive staff for whom nothing seemed to be a bother. Afterwards, we were able to enjoy a great family gathering in the hotel lounge, with Chris and his staff catering to our every need. After a really comfortable night, we had a wonderful breakfast before departing. This really is a gem of an hotel - I cannot find enough superlatives to describe it! Whether you are looking for the perfect spot in beautiful surroundings for a quiet break or planning a celebration, this is definitely the most perfect location.

Room Tip: Rooms facing south give the most fantastic mountain views - but all the rooms are excellent.
