“Little gem in a gem of georgian history”
Reviewed 9 August 2008

Pleasant location next to the harbour in a fascinating georgian town that at one time was really thriving.
Nice decent sized room overlooking the front. Bit odd that bathroom was across corridor rather than in room but it was a private bathroom and whilst quirky did not present any real issue.

Good well cooked to order breakfast.

Clean and tidy with some atmosphere. This hotel in this location would not benefit from becoming a chain hotel with all the standardisation that follows.

There are no other hotels in the area so if you need to be on the black isle this is a good choice. If not you miss the black isle and its treats.

Unfortunately we didn’t think it was anywhere near as good as other reviews suggest. Good points are a lovely and quiet location, nice residents lounge, a great breakfast and friendly proprietors and staff. Bad points are a mattress so old, ridged and uncomfortable that it was like trying to sleep in two wheelbarrows side by side. Some electric outlets in the room were by means of extension leads and sockets on which the testing was 2 years out of date. The kettle was on the floor; the TV was ancient and the aerial wires faulty and bare. There was a redundant light and shaver fitting behind the wardrobe. Lavatory cistern was badly cracked, bathroom blind broken and the mirror light cover melted;. Previous occupant's used soap still in the bathroom! No toiletries provided, only soap; no hairdryer. Apart from breakfast the dining room is closed except in summer so if you want to eat then it's in the bar, which is very brightly lit and somewhat austere (we didn't eat there so can’t comment on the food).
We should probably have complained whilst there but it was a short stay so we didn't. Not an enjoyable experience, especially at £80 per night.

What a lovely find ! Stayed just for the 1 night while touring Scotland but wished it could have been for longer.Warm friendly welcome, nice room overlooking the beach , great food ( & very reasonably priced) .Never been to Cromarty or the Black isle before but its such a nice relaxed place with plenty to do it won't be long before we're back ,.

Stayed here for two nights in July 06. Our room faced the harbour and had a lovely view, although it would have been cold in winter with the breeze coming in the windows! Not all rooms are en-suite - ours had private facilities which wasn't ideal. If you do stay in the hotel, it is worth eating there - very good local produce, well cooked. They have a good wine list, along with cask ales and they pride themselves on having malts from every operating distillery in Scotland which is impressive! Overall, pretty good value for money, especially on the food and wine front.

A group of 9 friends spent the weekend in the hotel, and enjoyed the stay. The food was fairly good, and the management were kind enough to let us check out very late in the day. We therefore accepted their offer and spent the afternoon in bed! The rooms do vary, but the room we had looked onto the firth and the oil rig which was surprisingly beautiful. The place was very clean.

Very impressed by all aspects of this hotel. Received a very friendly welcome. Very comfortable room with beautiful view of Cromarty bay. Enjoyed locals playing music in the bar. Food (local whole prawns) also good. Despite central heating, open fires and other heating some rooms still a little cold - but it was February in the Highlands!
