The hotel is old so there are sloping floors and creaky floorboards. The room we had was "lived in" but clean and spacious. We had a lovely sea view with the added bonus of an oil rig to look at!
We did eat in the restaurant and it was a good meal although the server was new ( we think) and hadn't quite got the hang of serving. The owner, though, was very welcoming and personable.
Cromarty is a lovely little place to visit and we do intend to return in the future.

Room Tip: Get a sea view

My husband and I, having had a good lunch here last year, and given a generous review, went for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday ,5th May. We wont be back, surly, slow service and the bar only had 5 people in. The menus we were given were very poor and we then discovered there was a specials board that we had not been shown. The only good thing about the bar was the lovely open fire! As I said,we wont be back, the competition on the Black Isle is much much better. What a shame.

Had a two night stay over the May bank holiday. Loved the hotel which managed to combine old with new: sunny conservatory, snug comfortable period lounge, open fires and contemporary bar/dining area. Our room was well appointed, contemporary with period features, overlooking the Cromarty Firth, harbour and oil rig, which was enchanting when lit up at night!
Only slight downside was wifi reception was poor in our room but to be honest, who cares when you can sit in the comfy lounge and plan your day on line if you need to!
Food was excellent and reasonably priced - the vegetarian strogonoff was the best I have tasted and the sea bass was melt in the mouth - compliments to the chef! Generous breakfast with choice to suit all tastes. Jenny was a font of all local knowledge, staff were efficient and professional. Can't wait to return!

After visiting relatives at Culboke my daughter and I took the scenic route home and stopped at the Royal in Cromarty for a belated birthday meal. I could not have chosen better. I was optimistic as last meal I had here was good, but last night's surpassed everything. The ambience of the lounge bar with open fire and comfortable seating is a good start. The bar man was welcoming and efficient. He indeed served us our meal. Daughter had a sirloin steak with a red wine sauce, and best of all the chips were homemade, not frozen. I settled for the beef stroganoff which was the best I've ever eaten. Portion was generous so declined dessert but daughter had the most amazing mango and lime cheesecake. Looked huge, beautifully presented but was as light as a feather. All in all, a very pleasing experience. We shall return. In fact may even stay the night so I can enjoy a glass of wine. for prospective customers wishing to stay there is also a pleasant conservatory which looks on to the bay. Wonderful place to relax with your book and a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Cromarty itself is an interesting place, full of history. There's also a good bakery, bookshop, antiques and for the adventurous, boat trips.

We came from southern California to spend a week in Cromarty in late November and were extremely delighted to find such fine food and a great selection of single malts! Every meal was an adventure of the most wonderful results. Jenny and her staff went out of their way to arrange the most delicious lobster dinner for my birthday and make it a very memorable evening. Be sure to try the haggis appetizers and the skink. Can't wait to go back to try some more of the menu and enjoy a wee dram or two!

January, nothing really ipen in the Highlands after Christmas and Hogmanay. To be expected of course, short daylight days, poorer weather, consumers short of spending money, establishments needing a rest themselves etc. How refreshing therefore to find a place bucking the trend and actually open! Wonderful warm, friendly welcome, gret menu suiting all tastes and pockets and a log fire too. Soup outstanding, mains extremely tasty and divine deserts, all for a most reasonable price. Cromarty is indeed fortunate to have a nice hotel with good relaxed facilities. When ladt there in September 2011, equally memorable but of course mucg busier.
