“Don't be put off by the garden!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

When we drove up to Linnmhor House, I was worried that I had made a big mistake in booking, as the exterior looked a little shabby and the garden looked a bit like a building site.

However, the whole experience exceeded my expectations. The room was more like a boutique hotel than a B and B: the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom sumptuous and there was a walk-in wardrobe. There was fresh milk on the landing for morning tea/coffee - and a coffee maker.

The breakfasts were excellent and very different from the standard B and B fare. I had an excellent kedgeree and my husband tried the scrambled egg one morning and the black pudding the other - all delicious. There was also a huge selection of fresh fruit.

Rona and Mike were friendly and knowledgeable about the area and made us feel very welcome.

We stayed here for our first night on a touring trip to the north of Scotland and Orkney. Beautiful house, with great furnishings and decor. Welcoming hosts and a wonderful breakfast to send us on our way. Would not hesitate to return for a longer stay. There are not a lot of eating places in Strathpeffer, the main one was closed on a Monday, Rona recommended The Coul Country House Hotel which was a couple of miles away, she organised the booking for us, it was a fabulous place with great food, we had a lovely first night.

Room Tip: Both double rooms are stunning.

The Linnmhor house is in a beautiful tranquil setting and felt like being at home. The owners are very welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed discussing Scotland and history with them. The breakfasts are delicious, beautifully laid out with a fire in the fireplace, fresh fruit, homemade cereals, cooked breakfasts and wonderful oatmeal bread. Mackenzies Coffee Shop within walking distance also has excellent healthy food. A wonderful place to stay!

Stayed here for 2 nights, our 3rd destination on a week's trip to the Highlands. We had arranged to drop our luggage off late morning, and had the opportunity to chooose our room when we did. We opted for room 4, overlooking the back garden. It was simply and elegantly decorated in neutral colours, save a feature wall of beautiful William Morris wallpaper! There was also a touch of tartan/check (curtains & a rug on the bed), which went well with the colour scheme. A compact bathroom with shower was of a very high standard. Good supplies of toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel & body lotion,) were supplied. (Great as we hadn't taken these due to hand luggage only.)
Free wifi is provided, although the service could be a little variable. (Room 1 may be better as it's directly above the hub.)
In the upstairs landing, tea, coffee (inc an espresso machine) and fresh milk are provided, and chocolates! Wine glasses are thoughtfully available if you should pick up a bottle on your travels!
The hosts were friendly and helpful without being intrusive, and gave good recommendations for day trips and restaurants.
Strathpeffer is a sleepy village, that used to be a spa town in Victorian times.
We went north to Ullapool one day, and did a drive recommended by the host to the west coast.
Breakfasts were excellent, a wide array of fresh fruit, cereals and approx 5 dishes cooked to order. We enjoyed the kedgeree, black pudding poached egg and scone, and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. All accompanied by freshly baked oatmeal bread.
Linnmhor no longer provides evening meals, but they suggested Red Poppy in the village for dinner and we had an excellent meal there. Great cooking with a twist, using local produce.
With so much competition in providing accomodation, attention to detail is paramount and Linnmhor has it in spades. Can highly recommend.

Stayed for two nights on business. Welcome was great and the hall and upstairs is just a beautiful old 19th century house. Had room 1 which is just gorgeous. Great bathroom with the best of soaps, creams, and shampoos and so on. Lovely fluffy towels. Owners very welcoming and they make the most mouth watering breakfast.
Lady of the house bakes all her own breads and makes her own jams, preservatives. Yummy.
Cannot praise this B and B enough. If you want a very warm welcome in the Highlands go and stay here.

Room Tip: All rooms are deligtful.

Thoroughly enjoyed staying at the stunning Linnmhor House in Strathpeffer. Rhona and Michael were such warm and friendly hosts who made us feel so welcome throughout the weekend stay. The bedroom and en-suite were immaculate and tastefully decorated. We were delighted to see that there were fresh tulips in the room. It was lovely to come down for breakfast in the morning after a really good sleep - and see a log fire. The breakfast was delicious with a rich menu ranging from a wide selection of cereals and fresh fruits to various tasty dishes e.g. hearty white or black pudding, mushrooms, salmon - each dish complemented by warm, fresh, home - made oatmeal bread. Michael ensured that our cups were constantly filled up with perfect coffee. He tended to our every need - as well as sharing his vast knowledge of the local area. We cannot recommend Linnmhor House highly enough. Margaret and Michael.
