excellent place to visit and free Lovely exhibits very interesting and a short video to watch which takes you back to the turn of the century. The taking of the waters was really something then.

Staff were very friendly and informative and the exhibition was very interesting giving an insight into how wealthy Victorians spent their time and money in the pursuit of health. The spa waters and mud bath treatments claimed to cure anything from arthritis to nervous problems and the lady in the mud bath was a sight to behold!

I visited this little museum, nice wax figures and they looked very realistic the history was interesting, just how stupid the Victorians were over what was healthy is hilarious the spa waters and certain medications and herbs, most would do them no good if only they realised they only needed a regular bath. The doctor's surgery was interesting and the stupidity of his diagnosis was hilarious too. The museum itself needed a lick of paint and restocking as the gifts were quite dusty and old looking, there was a musty smell of damp, maybe that was part of the content history of the spa, but I doubt it, worth a visit just for a giggle especially the naughty one covered in mud, I took no pics of that as it was a tad obscene, I have pictures of the museum to upload yet, will be on here shortly

They were actually closed when I tried the door as they were going off to a meeting but when they heard the door the lady opened up again and sold me the icecream I had been looking forward to. Unfortunately I was leaving before they reopened so didn't get time to see the exhibition - the icecream was fine though, second only to Mackie's in Aberdeen. Will go back some time.

Glad you like the Orkney Ice Cream (Mackies is good too!), but sorry we couldn't stay open for you. Normally we would be happy to do so. We look forward to seeing you again when you can see the rest of The Pump Room.

Few visitors will appreciate the amount of work that goes into maintaining the exhibition in the Pump Room at Strathpeffer.
This is a labour of love for the two ladies in charge and they keep it open seven days a week in the season. In return, they operate The Real Sweets and Gift Company in the foyer. This tiny shop has a range of gifts and sweets you will not find on sale elsewhere. Also home-made Orkney ice cream.
It is also the local Tourist Information Centre for Strathpeffer and the ladies find time to talk to every visitor. They provide maps for local walks and are able to explain in detail the many things to see and do around the old Victorian town of Strathpeffer.
